Miley vs Demi on the charts
The new Billboard Hot 100 chart is in and the result is; Miley Cyrus barely beats out Demi Lovato. Miley gained sixty spots going from #70 to #10 since last week with 7 Things. Demi Lovato meanwhile together with Joe Jonas goes directly to #11 with This Is Me which makes it the highest charted new song this week.
So what does this mean? Is Demi really that big a threat to Miley? If you can talk about a threat really, Disney wants both Miley and Demi to do well. If you would see it as a competition I don’t think so. This Is Me won’t have a very long shelf life I think, Camp Rock aired this week so that’s the main reason why it’s up there right now. I expect it to maybe gain a little next week and then go back down again. The soundtrack for Camp Rock made it to #3 on the Billboard 200 with decent sales numbers, it just had the bad luck of being released in a week with albums that had a far higher demand.
Miley on the other hand has her music video for 7 things coming out which should help the airplay and sales and to be totally blunt, 7things is just a better song than This Is Me. Not to mention that Miley actually wrote the song herself. You also have to consider another thing, See You Again was her previous single that made it to #10 in the Billboard charts but that took over ten weeks. 7 Things made it there within three weeks, so I expect it to gain quite a bit, how high I don’t know. Just shows that Miley is escaping the children’s market and going mainstream.
