Sorry for yet another Miley Cyrus story but it’s said that Miley Cyrus has now officially changed her name, so far the source is only E! Online. I usually like to use more sources to confirm a story but more and more media outlets are reporting it. I still won’t be 100% convinced until I hear an official statement from the Miley Cyrus camp.

As a lot of people know her given name is Destiny Hope Cyrus, Miley is just a nickname given to her really. Now she made it official, legally changing her name to Miley Ray Cyrus. The Miley is quite logical, the Ray is in honour of her dad.

I get the stage name thing; but legally changing your name? So you get a dorky or strange name, it’s something you have to live with (I have experience in the strange first name department). She’s been coping fine with it, especially seeing almost everyone knows her by her nickname. I’m thinking she put the Ray in there to limit the insult to her dad, seeing he’s the one that named her. Her parents must have allowed her to do it for some reason, a minor can’t change her name by herself.

There are worse names in the world than Destiny Hope, so I see this is a pointless move to be honest. It’s not like she’s suffering because of her birth name, it’s just a name that shows up on official documents. And to be completely honest, I think that Miley Ray sounds even dorkier than Destiny Hope.

Update:  There is now video footage of Miley saying that she legally changed it, it can be found on the ETonline website. She seems very happy about the change in the interview, looks like she’ll just be going by Miley Cyrus though. The Miley Ray Cyrus thing is just the current need for people to have middle names.
