The official numbers aren’t in yet now that I’m writing this so the expected numbers will have to do. The official numbers will be supplemented at a later date.
Miley Cyrus has dropped another spot in the Billboard charts it seems, selling about 63,000 copies of Breakout which is a bigger drop than I would have expected but still not too bad. The number one this week took a much harder fall; the Jonas Brothers still are in first spot but with no major releases last week that isn’t a surprise. Their massive 70% sales drop to about 153,000 sold copies is however. Guess there might have been some truth to some fans buying multiple copies, they wouldn’t buy a copy every week.
Camp Rock featuring Demi Lovato is also still in the top ten at number nine with about 50,000 copies sold. It’s quite a common thing for Disney soundtracks to show stable numbers of a longer period of time.
Demi Lovato’s first music video has been released for her song Get Back (the song also entered the Billboard Hot 100 at #43 this week). I didn’t really like the song Get Back at first though it’s slowly growing me, I still don’t think it’s a great song but it’s not that bad either.
This video however doesn’t make the song any better. There’s nothing wrong with simple straightforward music videos but this one is just boring. It’s a stage set up somewhere close to Brooklyn Bridge in New York and she performs there (without a crowd). Now there’s nothing wrong with Demi’s voice but there’s still one thing she lacks; stage presence. She’s still relatively new at performing so that skill can grow in the future but for the video I think it would have been a better choice to do a more themed imaginative music video.
She tries to be somewhat of a rocker chick in the video but just doesn’t sell me on it. I don’t get why this video is set in New York anyway, one of the objections I had with the song Get Back is that it seemed like it wasn’t really personal. The same is true for the surroundings, Demi is from Texas so why would she shoot a video in New York? That might seems like an odd argument but it’s one of the many factors that makes the video lack in personality. This could be the music video for any song really, doesn’t matter who would appear in it.
I’m still hoping that the rest of her album Don’t Forget which releases on September 23rd will have a lot more personality than the first song and video.
This Just Stand Up song for the Just Stand Up To Cancertelethon has hit the radio. There is just bad news, the song plainly sucks if you ask me. This song was intended to raise money and I highly doubt it will because of the song itself, if it does it will be because of the people singing it.
It’s all over the internet by now so it should be easy enough to find on Youtube if you want to listen to it yourself. When you have such a wide array of singers on it why the hell would you only let about five of them really sing and use the rest as background vocals? For example the person of most interest to this site, Miley Cyrus, can barely be heard on the track. Apparently Miley has two lines in the song which would be alright if you could actually tell it’s her, her voice doesn’t need to be morphed. Just like with other singers you have listen carefully if you even want to hear them which is just made worse by the voice morphing. I would think the people on the track (I’m not going to name them all again) are talented enough not to need any voice morphing.
It’s just a thirteen in a dozen R&B song, there’s just nothing special to it. There have been plenty of benefit songs in the past so it’s not exactly impossible task. Not that I would have done better but this just seems like something where they tried to put as many names as possible on the cover instead of putting the people in the song and work together. I think it would have been better if there had been less people singing it.
I have no doubt the song will do well in single sales; it just won’t be because of the quality of the song.
Miley Cyrus turns 16 on November 23rd, so you would think she’ll have her sweet sixteen around that time. Then however this thing shows up on ETOnline.
An announcement from Miley that she’s having her sweet sixteen on the 5th of October in Disneyland and that people can buy tickets for it. It’s quite obvious that this is something for charity; otherwise they wouldn’t be charging $250 a ticket for it. It’s not like Miley needs the money and people from a charity called Youth Service America are also invited, so I would think this is a fund raiser for that organization.
This just shouts Disney, I doubt this was an idea that came from Miley. So odds are there will also be some Disney Channel cameras there, or ET cameras seeing they’re announcing it and seem to make a big deal out of it. So they’re trying to get something out of it, I doubt Miley gets that much out of it. This is more a day of work than a birthday party, though if she can get people to pay $250 a ticket for charity why shouldn’t she? Though maybe Disney is overdoing it a bit with marketing Miley, they’re a business but it still seems a bit much at times.
There were rumors that the park would actually be closed down for it but I highly doubt that will happen. Disney isn’t going to close down a major theme park for a birthday party, even if it’s for their biggest star. It would just cost to much, even if they can make money of televising it. (Small addition, Disney is simply adjusting the closing times for the day, the park will close a little bit earlier than usual. So in that sense they are closing it for her party)
Though calling it her sweet sixteen is what bugs me a little, it’s no in date and to her it’s not in feeling either. She’ll probably have her sweet sixteen with her family and friends. That she says that friends are invited to this one is possible but with a guest list which was probably made by Disney. I can’t imagine that people that buy those tickets actually believe this is her actual sweet sixteen.
Though who knows; Miley be lucky and Disney will get her a very big present.
And yes I know Miley again….. I’m truly sorry but if the other girls featured on this site don’t do something soon it will be Miley only.
Just a little Billboard chart update for this week seeing there are still two people featured on this site in the top ten. Miley Cyrus dropped to number four with Breakout with 85,000 sold copies and Demi Lovato with the Camp Rock soundtrack at number eight with 50,000 sold copies. So that’s pretty much the same way it has been with Disney albums in recent years, just slowly dropping in the sales ranks.
Dominating this week however are the Jonas Brothers with 525,000 copies sold and also their previous album being on number ten with 31,000 sold. The Camp Rock soundtrack actually gives them three albums in the top ten. The numbers sold of their A Little Bit Longer however is far below estimates, the first estimates said over 700,000 after selling 200,000 the first day alone. I guess most of the Jonas fans ran out the first day to buy it, though I’ve also heard stories about fans buying multiple copies at different stores because there were different bonus tracks on them. If this is true they’re bound to drop rapidly next week.
