Edition 4: The future according to bvang
There are a lot of people linked on starletlinks.com that can be considered established already. Most of the actresses that are 18 and over can consider them established; under eighteen they’re still working on being established. But who from that category will actually make it? I don’t have a crystal ball of course but I can give some opinions on who I think will make it and who won’t. There are some obvious choices, but I’m not really someone that always goes for an obvious choice. I like to go for the underdog at times.
It’s easy to say that Abigail Breslin has a bright future seeing she was nominated for an Oscar for her role in Little Miss Sunshine. The Oscars aren’t what they used to be and aren’t a guarantee for future results. Even though we still see Anna Paquin in quite a lot of movies; she hasn’t actually really stood out in other roles after that. And she actually won an Oscar when she was twelve. Little Miss Sunshine is the only movie with Breslin I’ve actually seen, though she did quite well I don’t think she really stood out. Her performance wasn’t that special to me, it didn’t seem that special to me.

Emma Watson probably would be another obvious choice looking at her success in the Harry Potter Movies. I don’t think so; Emma Watson will always be Hermione Granger to most people. It happens to a lot of actors; William Shatner is still seen as Captain James T. Kirk, even though the original Star Trek ended years ago. That’s why some people like to call it the Star Trek effect. In some cases it doesn’t matter how much talent someone has, they’ll always be identified by one single role.
There of course are the Fanning sisters but I honestly don’t know how to judge them. I haven’t seen that much with them, though what I’ve seen of them didn’t impress me that much. I would rate Dakota as annoying at times. The Fanning sisters might get stuck with the child actress label.
There are a lot of popular TV shows on channels like Nickelodeon and Disney, but the actresses on those shows (Miley Cyrus, Emma Roberts, Jamie Lynn Spears, etc.) first have to expand into movies or more dramatic TV shows before an opinion about them can be formed. Most of them are starting to branch out into movies but I first have to see those movies to really form an opinion.
That leaves my secret tip for the future; Sofia Vassilieva. A lot of people would probably say “Sofia who?†For the people that don’t know she plays Ariel Dubois on the NBC show Medium. Yes I admit it, I watch that show. I’m probably one of the biggest critics regarding supernatural phenomena but I still enjoy watching the show for some reason. Sofia doesn’t always have a central role in the episodes, but there are episodes that are centred on her character. And I must say she can be quite impressive in those.

Of course this is only one TV show, she first has to prove herself in other roles. But in the past she has beaten Dakota Fanning when auditioning for a role so there is some material to compare her with. Starting of in a TV show probably isn’t a bad approach for someone like her (she has been in movies, but not in really big ones yet. She can be seen in the movie “Day Zero†later this year), it keeps her out of the spotlight and she can quietly gain experience.
But what do I know, I have my own opinion. Is that opinion correct? I don’t know; ask me again in about ten years.
