Introducing Mileyforum.com

Monday, September 8th, 2008

After a week of technical difficulties with very few updates to Starletviews.com, we can add another site to our family; Mileyforum.com (you have to wonder why that domain was still available). Yes, the first celebrity specific website and it’s about Miley Cyrus; just to re-assure the readers we have I need to say that we won’t be changing this into a Miley only site.

There is a gap in the world of celebrity forums, basically the same gap we want to serve with starletviews.com. Forums are either dedicated to completely loving a celebrity and others are just there to hate on them; there has to be a middle way. That’s why we’re introducing Mileyforum.com a forum where there can be normal debate about Miley without people attacking each other for having an opinion (that’s the idea anyway, time will tell if we can make that happen).

We also want members to become involved with the forum to a deeper level, we actually intend to do what are members want as long as it’s possible. We still make the final decisions of course but that’s just how the world works.

This is just the first one though, the future might hold more forums of its kind for other celebrities. Miley Cyrus is just a logical place to start seeing she is the biggest celebrity featured on starletviews.com right now. If the project is successful others might follow.

So take a look at Mileyforum.com and tell us what you think and if you like join in the discussion.

Just note that this is a brand new forum; it will take time for it to be really active.

And don’t worry, Starletviews.com won’t suffer. As long as technology doesn’t abandon us again.

Downtime

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

There was some downtime for Starletviews.com due to a failed software update. This means the site was offline for about ten hours, our apologies for the inconvenience.

The site is now back to the old software version.

Starletlinks.com has been redesigned

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Something that wasn’t planned at first has now been done anyway; Starletlinks.com was redesigned. The basic structure of the site has remained but it still looks different with new graphics.

So why the change? With the redesign of Starletviews.com the site just didn’t match the look of Starletlinks.com. The two sites now look different but still look related.

The starletviews.com RSS-feed on starletlinks.com has been replaced by a new one. Instead of the mediocre php script which didn’t even manage to display apostrophes properly it’s now handled through feedburner. It might be an externally hosted script but why do something yourself if someone else can do it better? It’s also a google product so it’s not really slowing the page down. The feed contains more information so people might be inclined to click through more, though the feed was moved to the bottom of the page.

The list of people featured on the site is slowly growing and is at 59 right now. There still might be more tweaks to the site but they won’t be as noticeable.

The redesign has been tested in Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera and Safari. If you still encounter problems please let us know.

New email address

Monday, May 5th, 2008

Not that we’ve been flooded by email over the last couple of months but I still want to point out that we changed our email address. The old address contacter@starletlinks.com will remain active but the main new email address will now be starletcontact@gmail.com.

Why switch to a free email server? There seem to be some reliability issues with the spam filters on the Godaddy (where starletlinks.com and starletviews.com are hosted) email servers at times. This way it’s also easier for other people to check the inbox of starletviews.com.

Some Changes

Monday, April 28th, 2008

There are going to be a couple of changes on starletviews.com and starletlinks.com. The changes actually are slowly being implemented and they might not seem as major but there are changes.

First of all lets start with starletlinks.com; the visitor numbers aren’t that great, one of the many reasons of that is that sites aren’t linking to the page in return. Which isn’t required but it’s something welcome, at one point we were emailing all the webmasters we were linking to ask for a link in return. Seeing that only a couple of webmasters ever responded that’s pretty much just wasted time; so we’re not going to do that anymore.

There also used to be a 50 name limit on starletlinks.com, this has also been dropped. Why? A couple of reasons; the more people that are featured the more search engine hits you get is pretty much the main one. The site would also be of more interest to other people, the list of starlets would never really get too long that it can’t be managed anymore. There’s always a change in names anyway as “older” starlets get removed and younger ones added. Doesn’t mean we aren’t interested in those people anymore, just means that they’ve outgrown the target demographic of starletlinks.com.

Now for starletviews.com; there are going to be some minor design tweaks going to happen in the near future but nothing major. The more major thing would be the content; there aren’t going to be editorials anymore every Friday. Doesn’t mean they’ll be gone; just means they’ll be posted whenever they’re written. Sometimes it’s just hard to come up with a subject so we’d rather choose to post higher quality articles less frequently. Knowing that something has to be finished at an exact date might get things done but it can also harm the quality a bit.

The news updates will just happen as normal; though with the addition of more names to starletlinks.com we’ll also try and increase the number of those. That’s basically the main “problem” with starletviews.com, it’s only targeted at a rather small demographic compared to other celebrity blogs. This is just a choice we made and we’re sticking with it. We also might add some more casual posts at times though, when things get quiet (if you don’t know what I mean by casual posts; I don’t either yet).

A while ago I also shut down starletforums.com but hardly anyone noticed that, so it’s not a big thing. It might return in the future when the circumstances suit a successful start, which they didn’t at first.

If you have any suggestions for us to how we can improve the site or if you’re even interested in helping us out (don’t expect any paid positions, the ad income for this site doesn’t even cover the hosting costs) just contact us at contacter@starletlinks.com.
