Edition 53: The Paparazzi Debate

Friday, August 1st, 2008

The city council of Los Angeles looking at how they can deal with the paparazzi in Hollywood. Their main concerns being the stars moving out of Hollywood or maybe even injuries due to paparazzi behavior. The LAPD nor the general public really see a point in changing the laws to deal with the paparazzi.

Something should be done about the paparazzi though, don’t get me wrong I think they do serve a purpose and should be able to do their jobs. People want pictures of celebrities and there should be a way to get them. There just should be a limit to what’s acceptable. Right now there are some celebrities that are being chased around town and are even limited in their movements.

Tell Me Something I Don’t Know

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

As is well known; Selena Gomez is starring in Another Cinderella Story. For the movie she also takes care of some of the soundtrack, which isn’t really a surprise and now the first song from that has leaked. It’s a song called Tell Me Something I Don’t Know, even though it’s not Selena’s singing debut seeing she already took care of the Wizards of Waverly Place theme song and had a song on Disneymania 6 I would see it as her real debut.

I would say the song is actually quite enjoyable (I’m obviously not going to post the link here, if people want it it’s easy enough to find on youtube) though there are one or two things that annoyed me. I seriously have to wonder why they put some guy in there to talk a few lines it doesn’t actually add anything to the song. The song in general is a nice fast paced pop/rock song and the talking in between just makes it feel interrupted. The beat on the intro and the outro doesn’t really seem to fit either but I can live with that.

There has been a rumor going around for pretty much forever now that Hollywood Records would announce a record deal with Selena very quickly. There are media outlets that are reporting that it was already signed but Hollywood Records hasn’t given a peep. Everything suggests that she has or will sign with Hollywood though, even though Tell Me Something I Don’t Know will be on a Warner Music soundtrack. So I’m still going to wait for an official announcement from Hollywood Records.

As for Another Cinderella Story there is also a trailer for it now.

The thing about the trailer; the storyline is pretty much identitcal to A Cinderella Story except they’ve replaced the Princeton storyline with a music video storyline. It’s a limited concept seeing they have to stick to the general Cinderella Story but I expected some more imagination otherwise there’s not that much point in doing a sequel. Then again it turns out it’s a straight to DVD movie and those storylines are never really original. I don’t get all these Disney girls doing weak straight to DVD movies, I would think they’d get offered better roles.

The Selena and Miley feud

Friday, July 25th, 2008

Lets get on the bandwagon and write about something everyone else is writing about. The Youtube feud between Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato on one side, Miley Cyrus and Mandy Jiroux on the other side. Demi and Selena made youtube video number one and in response Miley and Mandy made a parody. Pretty much every celebrity blog like Perez Hilton (who started it all) and WWTDD is posting about it. Even news sites like AOL and MTV.com are reporting on a newly brewing feud.

Thing just is; the Selena and Demi video was released March 12th and the Miley and Mandy video was released March 14th. Is it that hard to read the release date on a video? They both have been viewed over three million times. Why does it matter now what teenage girls put on youtube four months ago? I’ve even see someone say it’s about Selena dating Nick Jonas, that Miley would be mad about that. I would think it’s a basic journalistic principle to check simple things like that. Even TMZ.com managed to notice that and they are owned by AOL who didn’t get it.

So I just want to say if there really was a feud between the girls there would be a lot more mudslinging. Teenage girls can get a lot worse than making youtube parodies. I just feel sad for the internet, people that have no sense of integrity spreading things that don’t even matter months after it actually happened.

The 13 Hottest Young Stars To Watch

Saturday, July 5th, 2008

Our friends at TVGuide.com send us an email saying that they had made a ranking of the 13 Hottest Young Stars to Watch, which was ranked by the TVGuide.com editors. So this was a democratic vote so no surprise that I wouldn’t have chosen all the people on the list.

It is funny that one person isn’t actually on the list but is used as the benchmark for the entire ranking; Miley Cyrus. So she’s still seen as far above all the others which isn’t really a surprise, there’s no way of avoiding her.

Just highlighting the female stars in the list they’re ranked as follows:
1. Selena Gomez
2. Demi Lovato
3. Miranda Cosgrove
4. Emily Osment
5. Brenda Song
7. Emma Roberts
8. Alyson Stoner
9. Ali Lohan
10. Jordan Pruitt
13. Meaghan Martin

The top three is pretty obvious, they’re simply the ones that are getting the most attention from the media. Though I’m somewhat starting to hate the line “The next Miley Cyrus” which is being used for Selena in this case. Fact just is that that can’t happen, none of the girls can be the next Miley Cyrus. Miley’s success was overnight with the launch of Hannah Montana, girls like Selena have done things already. They just can’t achieve the fast rise to fame that Miley had anymore. Though it does show at what high level Miley is seen these days, there’s nothing hire in her category.

I’m not going to address all names on the list, though I have to say that it doesn’t come as a surprise that Emily Osment, Emma Roberts, Ali Lohan and Jordan Pruitt are on it. Though Ali’s only rise to fame is her sister so far, she still hasn’t done any work for herself actually unless you want to count that lack of reality show Living Lohan.

Names I don’t understand being on there are Brenda Song and Meaghan Martin. This is going to sound strange but Brenda Song is a bit old to be on the list, she’s “already” twenty years old. So far she’s still only active within the Disney Channel world, for her to be really noticed she would have to step out of that. Meaghan Martin I first had to look up, can’t remember all names obviously, I simply don’t see what she has done outside of Camp Rock to be on that list. She doesn’t exactly have a lot of projects listed in the near future either.

I can’t really argue with the editors at TVGuide.com, they probably have some better sources for news than I have and are a bit more inside the industry. Just like this list wasn’t done by one person which probably means that probably not all the TVGuide editors agree with it. I could add names which I think are missing from the list but odds are that some of the editors actually did name them but they simply didn’t make it into the top 13.

About this purity pledge

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Everyone is making a big deal about this purity pledge Selena Gomez has taken, I just wonder why. I’m not going to say a lot about it; whether someone takes a purity pledge is completely up to that person. For one person it’s the right thing to do, for the next maybe not.

This is something that’s completely up to Selena, I don’t think this will make her more or a good girl than any other person in Hollywood that hasn’t take a pledge; even though that’s what the media wants to portray. To name an example I don’t remember Hilary Duff ever making a public purity pledge and she’s still considered a good girl. Or on the other hand Miley Cyrus is now considered a bad girl and she actually made a public purity pledge after that pregancy rumor. Britney Spears also made one and everyone knows how that turned out. Though Selena did go one step further by wearing a blessed purity ring.

So that’s all I want to say, everyone is their own person and should do a purity pledge if they want or not. Though in general I don’t think they should be as public about it, saying one thing when you’re fifteen and being completely and madly in love with someone at for example eighteen can change a situation. It’s mainly the media that inflates this story though; it’s just something Selena did, I don’t think she wanted to make a big deal out of it.
