Mischa Barton arrested for DUI

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

TMZ.com has reported that Mischa Barton was arrested in Hollywood this morning for DUI, posession of narcotics and driving with a suspended license.

I’m not going to judge her on her being an alcoholic or whatever seeing I don’t even know how intoxicated she was. There’s just not enough information right now to make a judgement, though drinking and driving is a no no, no matter what. As the law says; innocent until proven guilty.

I’m mentioning it for a different reason, after people like Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan we now have Mischa Barton arrested for a similar offense. This is just going to mean more generalisation that all Hollywood starlets can’t manage to behave themselves.

Maybe there is a higher percentage of Hollywood starlets getting busted for this kind of thing than other people of their age demographic. I don’t know I don’t have the statistics on that; I just hope that people will still see that there are starlets out there that never get in any trouble (as far as we know anyway).

I’m just tired of interviewers asking starlets about their peers getting in trouble. It’s just sad that the general public has started to perceive being in trouble is the normal thing in Hollywood instead of the other way around.

Who makes the most money?

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

Forbes Magazine released its “The 20 Top-Earning Young Superstars” this week, which basically focuses on the stars under 25 and look at how much they make. The top earners are pro-athletes so they’re of no real interest to us. In our field of interest the list pretty much starts at number five with the Olsen Twins earning $17 million each, though they didn’t actually make any money of their career in movies but of their production and clothing company.

Hilary Duff is ranked 7th with an income of $12 million, Keira Knightley is 10th with $9 million, Scarlett Johansson is 12th with $5 million, Mischa Barton is 13th with $4.5 million, Dakota Fanning is 14th with $4 million, Emma Watson is 15th with $4 million, Miley Cyrus is 17th with $3.5 million, Lindsay Lohan is 18th with $3.5 million and Mandy Moore is 19th with $3.5 million.

I just wonder, how does Forbes know what they make? I am in no position to claim that they’re wrong but income is just something that people don’t really like to talk about. Endorsement deals are also something companies tend to be vague about.

Especially looking at the example of Miley Cyrus I think she actually make considerably more than $3.5 million. In her case I just think it’s hard to keep track of everything she makes money on, seeing she makes a cut of all Hannah Montana merchandise and there’s a lot of that stuff out there. I also think she makes a fair some of money of her fan site mileyworld.com, despite the negative press. They do mention her concert tour but it seems like they’re pushing that back to next year. Which is probably explained by the timing, if they don’t count November until next year then the number is probably quite realistic. For next year the number should go up quite a bit.

Lindsay Lohan proves that even with going to rehab twice, getting DUI’s and pretty much just messing up you can still make $3.5 million a year. Though that number might have been considerably higher if she had been in successful movies.

I would really like to know where they get their numbers though.

Mischa Barton gets Walled In

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

Misch Barton has been cast to co-star Deborah Kara Unger and Cameron Bright in the psychological thriller Walled In. the movie is based on the French novel Les Emmeures. Mischa plays a demolition company representative who survives a building being razed, she discovers that past inhabitants were entombed in the walls of the building.

This movie is the first project for the Leomax production company, it’s a German-American production company funded with Swiss money. The plan is to make four to six movies with modest budgets in the thriller and action genre with mostly foreign directors. In this case the movie will be directed by French director Gilles Paquet-Brenner.

I’m always hesitant about projects like this, you would think there are plenty of production companies already but more and more seem to be started. In this case the money comes from a Swiss hedge fund; hedge funds usually don’t invest in something if they aren’t convinced they can make money out of it but they also just look at that one thing: money.

If I already read that this will be a modest budget movie it means to me that they try to skimp money wherever they can. So I don’t think this will be a huge hit.

Edition 17: The Bad Habit

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

Mischa Barton, Thora Birch, Kaley Cuoco, Elisha Cuthbert, Kirsten Dunst, Scarlett Johansson, Keira Knightley, Lindsay Lohan, Jena Malone, Mandy Moore, Hayden Panettiere, Natalie Portman, Brittany Snow and Michelle Trachtenberg. Those are the names linked on starletlinks.com that are proven to be smokers. This means that of the names linked on the site in the age category over 16, 35% smokes. This is higher than the average in the normal population, the normal number for women in the United States is 22%.

Some things I have to say before going further into this is that these are the people that are proven to smoke. There might be others that do a very good job of hiding it. And of course I also don’t know how much these people smoke, they could be social smokers. But one thing is certain, they do smoke. Personally I think it’s a horrible habit; though I have personal reasons for that. But I don’t think any less of people that do smoke.

But why is the percentage of smokers so high in Hollywood? And why do they start so young? I think there are multiple reasons, I remember an interview with Shannon Doherty, she’s way past the starlet age but it does show a point. She once had to smoke in a role; she liked it so she kept doing it. I don’t know how often this happens but it shows it does happen.

At first she denied it but these days she can be spotted holding a cigarette quite frequently.
