Hannah Montana: The Movie soundtrack

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

hannah-montana-movie-soundtrack-coverSo today the soundtrack for Hannah Montana: The Movie was released. To start with one thing; most of it is nothing like any previous Hannah Montana soundtrack. Part of it is though and it’s not surprising that it’s the Hannah Montana part but that’s only seven of the eighteen songs. It’s actually quite long for today’s standards with a playtime of pretty much exactly an hour. (more…)

The Climb

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

Miley Cyrus has a new music video out and there actually is some anticipation about it. Not so much for the video itself but more because of the positive responses Miley is getting for her song The Climb. Lets just say that even people who hate Miley are taking a liking to it. So far Miley hasn’t been the very best at music videos as they all seemed a bit rushed. Probably because they were all shot within a day which is a bit short and the good news is that there is some improvement. In fact that there are some points which are surprising and very pleasant.

Lets start of with the song The Climb itself as we haven’t reviewed that on here yet either. It is basically the launch of the promotion for Hannah Montana: The Movie which will come out in about two months on April 10th. It is a balad; a kind of song Miley hasn’t had as a single so far and she does a good job at it. Live she does the song even better but it is a good song nonetheless; especially lyrically it’s a good song though Hannah Montana songs are quite strong in that department. It might seem strange for songs that are basically meant for a TV show but it is true.

One thing that I do hear a lot from people is that they think it doesn’t sound like Miley. While she sounds a bit different I would have to disagree on it not sounding like Miley; the girl has shown quite a bit vocal range already for her age so it’s more an issue of people not really having heard her full potential. Who wrote the song? That is unknown right now; there is a lot of speculation on whether Miley wrote it or the Hannah Montana writers but that is something that will come out sooner or later. Just like with more songs on the Hannah Montana Movie soundtrack the performing artist will be listed as Miley Cyrus and not as Hannah Montana. Which probably will make that CD one of the more confusing ones of the year.

Now to the video and we first see a glimpse of Miley walking through a rather badly computer animated landscape after which we see her in a room with laser effects where she kneels down. Here we can already see the biggest shocker or the entire video; she is dressed normally. She’s wearing jeans, a gray top and Converse All Stars which is a very Miley outfit. Zooming in on her face also shows that she’s showing no to little make up. This is a video made in Hollywood isn’t it? Yes it is and that makes it all surprising and refreshing, it’s about time that people are shown more naturally. Miley already does that when going out into public but doing it in a video is a rather big step but it does fit the video. So there is also a reason to it.

Most of the video is filled with three elements; Miley walking through the earlier mentioned landscape (at one point some rather amateurishly animated horses run across it, this is Disney; they can do better). Which is obviously representing the journey of the Climb. At some point she takes of her boots and continues barefoot with just her guitar ending on the edge of a big canyon which again isn’t the best animated.

The second element is Miley in the laser filled room where she she starts to play her guitar. Miley can actually play the guitar so it doesn’t look fake or forced either, especially not seeing it’s her own guitar that she is using in the video and not some random prop. Not sure what the laser parts are for but they’re not too distracting and probably add a bit to the atmosphere. Later on you can see her in front of a screen with footage from Hannah Montana: The Movie.

They should have left the movie exposure to that honestly because the third element just doesn’t work. They worked in a couple of movie clips but it just doesn’t flow with the music video. So that sort of ruins the music video as a whole, that combined with the bad animation. If they had left out the movie clips and had gone to some more skilled animators (or given them more time) then it would actually have been a good music video. Which is a sad conclusion despite certain strong points that are very not-Hollywood and a pleasant surprise.

Just Plain Stupid

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

Now normally we don’t really comment on personal things on here but this is just beyond ridiculous that it deserves a post. That and it still being slow on news on here. It just wasn’t posted on her because I honestly believed it would just blow over and didn’t want to be caught in all the drama around it.

No doubt however that everyone has heard of these slanted eye picture of Miley Cyrus. Now that some people felt offended by it fine but it doesn’t mean it was racist. Miley now apologized so that would be the end of it I would think but not for some people.

Someone named Lucile J. Kim is honestly suing Miley for $4 billion now. Who is this woman trying to kid? Is she really deluded enough to believe that she has a chance of winning a lawsuit like this? Though there are good odds is just some ambulance chaser lawyer who went along with it, any lawyer with some common sense would kick this woman to the curb. Just another case of a frivolous lawsuit which will help absolutely no one. Not even beginning to mention that this woman is stuck up enough that she feels she has the right to speak for all Asians in the LA County. Why doesn’t she sue for all Asians in the world?

Honestly I sometimes feel that Miley can never do anything right, everything the girl does is blown way out of proportion. Sure the girl is a celebrity but at least give the girl chance to live a little. There are enough fake plastic celebrities in Hollywood right now; it’s rather refreshing to see someone who isn’t afraid to speak her mind (that is a general statement and not in regard to this specific case).

Casting Rumors

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

stepsister-schemeThere has been a lot of buzz about Dakota Fanning getting a role in the Twilight sequel New Moon; so why wasn’t it posted on here? Because it’s only talks, she isn’t actually confirmed for the role yet. But looking at the shortage of news around recently we’re going to talk about it anyway. Also it’s certain that she is in talks to be in the movie seeing she has confirmed that talks are under way in interviews. If she were to be cast she would be play the role of the vampire Jane.

Is this a good career move for Dakota? I don’t think so, in fact I think it’s a bad one. Financially Twilight was a major success but does that make it into a successful movie franchise? No it does not; in fact there has been a lot of criticism on the movie. New Moon getting a different director might help but it’s no guarantee that it will be a success. A lot of people were disappointed by Twilight and that might hurt New Moon, not to mention they seem to be rushing production on it which can never be a good thing.

Of course it might turn out to be a major success but Dakota Fanning is also somewhat of a bigger name. Adding names to movies is often a sign of weakness; if Twilight did so well because of the original cast they wouldn’t have to add big names. Unless they truly believe that Dakota is the right person for that role.

Now to a different casting rumor which involves three people; Lindsay Lohan, Megan Fox and Miley Cyrus are rumored to be in talks to star in a movie based on the novel The Stepsister Scheme. A project which Disney is said to be setting up. To describe it very quickly it’s about what happens with Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella after the happily ever after. Most people like to describe it as Charlie’s Angels in a fairy tale.

Now the first major problem with that rumor is the source; it seems to have originated from UK Tabloid The Sun. Which doesn’t mean it’s not true but it could also mean that someone on their editorial staff was just bored and made something up. Though that’s not even the biggest problem with the project.

The fact that it is said to be a Disney project and Lindsay Lohan is involved makes it hard to believe. Lindsay’s career isn’t going anywhere right now in all reality; he has one movie coming out which has one major problem. There isn’t anyone who actually wants to distribute it in the US.

Megan Fox and Miley Cyrus are both still on the rise and Lindsay simply isn’t. It would be odd for any movie studio to cast two big names and combine those with a name which isn’t the best in Hollywood right now. That the studio in question is Disney makes it even less likely. In all reality Lindsay ruined her chances of working with Disney anytime soon on the set of Herbie: Fully Loaded.

If Disney were to make this movie the names of Megan and Miley actually would somewhat make sense. Miley obviously because she’s Disney’s big money maker and Megan because she seems to be doing rather well lately. Though the difference between Miley and Megan as actors is a bit big; both reputation as age wise.

So as to the two casting rumors discussed: Dakota Fanning in New Moon will probably happen. Miley Cyrus, Megan Fox and Lindsay Lohan together in the same movie? Not anytime soon.

The nominees are in

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

Sorry for all the Miley Cyrus fans but she didn’t get nominated for Best Original Song, the nominees in that category are:

WALL-E
“Down to Earth”
Slumdog Millionaire
“Jai Ho”
Slumdog Millionaire
“O Saya”

Which one has to admit is an odd selection, especially Bruce Springsteen not being there is a major surprise. He recently won the Critics Choice Award and Golden Globe after all. Miley Cyrus was one of the main favourites together with Jeffrey Steele for I Thought I Lost You but it’s not uncommon for the Academy to nominate unexpected songs.

On a positive note; Anne Hathaway actually did get a nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her role in Rachel Getting Married, she has quite some competition though:

Rachel Getting Married; Anne Hathaway
Changeling; Angelina Jolie
Frozen River; Melissa Leo
Doubt; Meryl Streep
The Reader; Kate Winslet

Disney did get some nominations though, Wall-E got quite a few technical nominations and even one for Best Original Script. In the Best Animated Feature category the nominees are:

Bolt; Chris Williams and Byron Howard
Kung Fu Panda; John Stevenson and Mark Osborne
WALL-E; Andrew Stanton

Disney is actually dominating that category with two nominations, not that they needed to nominate anyone; Wall-E is going to win anyway.  Though personally; the nomination for Kung Fu Panda is a joke, it has no place being on that list.

There is no doubt that everyone will be talking about the Best Actor in a Suporting Role nomination for Heath Ledger, that’s why we won’t.
