Edition 17: The Bad Habit

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

Mischa Barton, Thora Birch, Kaley Cuoco, Elisha Cuthbert, Kirsten Dunst, Scarlett Johansson, Keira Knightley, Lindsay Lohan, Jena Malone, Mandy Moore, Hayden Panettiere, Natalie Portman, Brittany Snow and Michelle Trachtenberg. Those are the names linked on starletlinks.com that are proven to be smokers. This means that of the names linked on the site in the age category over 16, 35% smokes. This is higher than the average in the normal population, the normal number for women in the United States is 22%.

Some things I have to say before going further into this is that these are the people that are proven to smoke. There might be others that do a very good job of hiding it. And of course I also don’t know how much these people smoke, they could be social smokers. But one thing is certain, they do smoke. Personally I think it’s a horrible habit; though I have personal reasons for that. But I don’t think any less of people that do smoke.

But why is the percentage of smokers so high in Hollywood? And why do they start so young? I think there are multiple reasons, I remember an interview with Shannon Doherty, she’s way past the starlet age but it does show a point. She once had to smoke in a role; she liked it so she kept doing it. I don’t know how often this happens but it shows it does happen.

At first she denied it but these days she can be spotted holding a cigarette quite frequently.

Mary Elizabeth joins cast for Make it Happen.
Not to sure what to think about this one; Mary Elizabeth has been in quite a lot of Blockbusters the last couple of years. The description is still a bit unclear but it seems to be mainly marketed towards a slightly younger audience with a more or less standard story. But that kind of movies has to be made as well, so this just seems to be something along her road, nothing really big.

Michelle Trachtenberg to star in The Circuit.

I’m getting the idea that Michelle’s career isn’t going anywhere. This movie is actually a TV movie for ABC Family. Michelle has only been in minor movies and a couple of independent productions in recent years. She comes from TV originally but if she continues like this that also might be the end for her. She might just become a standard movie of the week actress if she doesn’t do anything more ambitious in the cinematic department.

New Movies this week (US):

Hairspray (Amanda Bynes, Brittany Snow)
I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry (Jessica Biel)

P.S. Starletviews.com writer Trent has found a new hobby. Watching movies and using parts of those movies to make music videos. To check out his work go to his Youtube Channel.

Edition 9: Big Cars; Small Girls

Saturday, June 9th, 2007

Lindsay Lohan once again crashed a car as we all know and we already went into that, now we’re going to talk about the cars. She crashed this specific car, a Mercedes SL65, multiple times. It made me think, why do people like Lindsay and her colleagues in both age range and occupation drive cars that are way too big and fast for them?

Lindsay has had multiple cars in her not that long driving career. She pretty much started off with a Mercedes SL55 but traded that in when the SL65 came out. The only real difference between those two cars is the engine; the SL65 has more power and is a bit faster to 60mph. The top speed is the same, German car makers (except for Porsche and Audi on their top of the range sport models) all limit their cars to 155mph. So why even bother getting a SL65 instead of a SL55?

It’s just a car that’s easier to crash because the electronics can handle the power of the engine in the SL55 but they can’t in the SL65. And I’ve seen pictures of Lindsay getting into that car on flip-flops, that’s asking for trouble. And the car is available with a V6, if you tell your local Mercedes dealer to make it look like an AMG they will. So there really isn’t a need to drive a car like the SL65. But she already has a new car besides that SL65; it’s a Porsche Carrera convertible. At least that’s a car that manages to get its power onto the road. Unless Lindsay finds out there’s a tuner in Germany that will modify it to 900bhp and 250mph.
