Edition 33: Rising Starlets 2007

Friday, November 30th, 2007

There are dozens of pointless lists on the internet during a year, most of which show up at the end the year. If you ask me I would say most of them are useless, in the end people will make their own judgement on who they think is best. So that’s why starletviews is introducing “the rising Starlets of 2007”, a list that shows who of the younger generation is climbing the Hollywood ladder. It’s extremely subjective because it was made by just one person: me. No public voting was involved to manipulate the results in any way.

Megan Fox in Jennifer’s Body

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

Megan Fox has signed on to star in the supernatural thriller Jennifer’s Body. The story is about a cheerleader who’s living a perfect life but becomes the girl from hell when she gets possessed and starts killing boys in a small town. Her best friend has to try and stop her.

The script is written by Diablo Cody who also wrote the script for Juno; the movie starring Ellen Page which has quite some Oscar buzz around it for best movie and best actress. Though I don’t really pay that much attention to talk like that; first of all the Oscars don’t always mean that much and it’s way too early.

The production company Atomic tries to finish the movie before a possible Writer’s Guild of America strike. The strike would mean that all writers that are a member of the WGA would stop working, pretty much halting production on every movie and TV show being in production. Don’t worry, even though I myself attempt to write movie scripts I won’t go on strike because I’m not a WGA member. So I won’t stop writing on here either.

So far Megan Fox hasn’t really have a lot of notable roles; before the general public knew her from Transformers (which of course isn’t really an acting highlight even though it might be an enjoyable movie) she pretty much only co-starred in the Lindsay Lohan movie Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. That movie was bad in every conceivable way so not really a strong point on her resume.

So career wise this is an excellent choice, starring in a movie written by a person that has been getting high critical acclaim. Though that might also backfire if Diablo Cody turns out to be a one hit wonder; career wise it’s still a good choice of role for Megan.

Fox signs on to Transformers 2

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

Megan Fox has signed on to star in Transformers 2, the sequel to the block buster that hit cinemas this summer. Shia LaBeouf has also signed on to the sequel which is set to be released in the summer of 2009. The movie will again be directed by Michael Bay, though there are indications that the 2009 release date won’t happen due to a big strike that might happen in Hollywood in 2008. Also the extensive CGI work would be a reason for a delay.

Not surprising that Megan signs on to the sequel, seeing it’s basically the only hit movie she’s ever been in. Besides Transformers 2 she’s only signed to one other project which doesn’t make her schedule very busy.

I can’t say that I’ve seen a lot of Megan’s work (there isn’t that much of it anyway) so I don’t know how she’ll develop her career. The fact that she doesn’t seem to be signing on to that many projects might indicate that she really isn’t more than a pretty face and will struggle to get signed to roles in the years to come.
