Lindsay out of Manson Girls

Friday, May 9th, 2008

Lindsay Lohan will not be starring in the movie Manson Girls after all. The main story the media is going with right now is that when Lindsay was attached no one else wanted to join the project so the producers decided to drop her. Whether this story is true or not I don’t know; it doesn’t really matter. People get attached to projects for various reasons and removed again for all sorts of reasons.

She never officially signed any deal for the film as far as I know so there could be multiple reasons why she dropped out. It might just be the media trying to twist a story into a more sellable one, I wonder if we’ll ever officially find out. Though I have to admit that if I were working on a movie I wouldn’t want Lindsay to be on the cast either right now. Even if they hope to attach better names than Lindsay with her dropping out they still have work to do. The movie is scheduled to shoot in July so they still have to find people that are available for that period.

The magic of the internet

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

With the magic of the internet it’s harder and harder to keep things from coming out before they’re supposed to. This also goes for music; in this case songs for Lindsay Lohan and Miley Cyrus have already leaked onto the internet. I’m not going to link to the sings for the simple reason that they’ll probably be gone a couple of hours after they’re posted. Record companies don’t like their stuff leaking onto the internet so they try to plug the leaks. Though odds are that if you look for the songs on youtube you’ll have no problem finding them.

Lets start with the leaked Lindsay Lohan song; the song is called Bossy and apparently was written by Lindsay herself (the lyrics anyway) and rewritten by Ne-Yo (though none of this information is official seeing Motown never intended for this to come out, not officially anyway). The song itself is more of a dance song, the beat itself is somewhat catchy though not really my thing. My main problem with the song is the lyrics, I know that dance songs are usually a bit repetitive but in this case it’s just a bit annoying.

Lindsay isn’t exactly showing a lot of vocal range in the song, of course you can hear it was sung by Lindsay but it could have been recorded by anyone really. This song isn’t a challenging song for any singer and this is the main problem with Lindsay’s music career. She’s not really a musician; the singing is just a hobby, it’s not one of her core activities. The song itself doesn’t show any real passion for music. Of course this is just one song; the album could be great I don’t know I just doubt it. Doesn’t matter how many great producers she works with. If this is any indication of how her entire album is going to be it’s not going to do any better than the previous one which pretty much flopped (not due to me though, I actually own it).miley-performing.jpg

Now to the Miley Cyrus songs; there are five songs for her new album already leaked. Three simply leaked onto the internet and she performed two more at the Disney Channel Games, with a lot of people having cameras these days there are of course videos of these performances. Lets start with the three leaked songs. Two of them were written by Miley herself (the lyrics of course and some of the music), they’re called Full Circle and Don’t Walk Away. Miley said that part of her album would be The Killers inspired, those two songs don’t really show that. They’re pretty much pop songs with rock influences, so they’re more rock than the songs on the Meet Miley Cyrus album. (more…)

Lindsay on Ugly Betty

Monday, May 5th, 2008

There was a rumour going around that Lindsay Lohan was to guest star on the ABC show Ugly Betty (main star America Ferrera of course). For a change the rumour is actually true, Lindsay was already spotted on the set of Ugly Betty. Now it has been confirmed that she’ll be in the season finale with a possible expansion into the first part of the next season (there’s talk of about five to eight episodes).

There are some people that see this as a big return for Lindsay but I wouldn’t see it that way quite yet (though she apparently showed up early to set, something she was known to have trouble with in the past). It’s just a TV guest spot, it’s a tiny step. If she proves she can do a good job on that as far as work ethic goes more producers might be willing to risk putting her in films again. It’s just a process that takes time.

Brittany, Amanda and Lindsay against Miley

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Have Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Bynes and Brittany Snow teamed up against Miley Cyrus? No they’re not turning against Miley because of the Vanity Fair pictures; this is another episode in the YouTube dance battle between the dance crews ACDC (Step Up director John Chu and Adam Sevani) and M&M Cru with a U (Miley Cyrus and Mandy Jiroux).

While the first they made just consisted of dancers the new one also features celebrities, amongst these are some people of the Hairspray cast (in this case Amanda Bynes, Brittany Snow and Elijah Kelley) but also Lindsay Lohan and her galpal (somehow I hate that term) Samantha Ronson. Of those the biggest part is probably for Lindsay, including one where she knocks over two cardboard cut-outs of Hannah Montana. There actually are far more celebrities in the video but I’m not going to name them all.

As for the video itself, all those celebrities being in there is actually problem if you ask me. While the M&M video basically only had Channing Tatum as a celebrity, John and Adam tried to stick as many as possible in there. It just makes it more a parade of celebrities than an actual dance video. The dancing is of course of the highest level but the video itself just doesn’t really work for me, I actually think their first video was better.

Of course it took time to produce this video; seeing it only took a couple of days for the Miley & Mandy response to come online I don’t know if that will be the case this time. Mandy is away with her new band the Beach Girlz while Miley is in Tennessee for the Hannah Montana Movie rehearsals. So if they have the response prepared (which I think was the case last time) it will only take a couple of days. Otherwise we won’t see a response for another couple of months.

Lindsay and Snoop Dogg

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Though I haven’t seen any official confirmation of it at all, it looks like Lindsay Lohan will be working with Snoop Dogg on her new album. That’s pretty much the same information status on her working with Timbaland and Pharell Williams, also nothing official yet but it seems to be happening. The fact that Universal moved her to the Motown Records clearly shows there, though she doesn’t really fir the label description.

Let me first point out that I’m not a fan of the music of any of those producers, it’s just not my kind of music. They’re all good for a lot of record sales every year though, so in the sales department it would be a good move. However, good producers don’t mean good music. So we’ll have to wait and see about that.

However I have no idea when we’re expected to see this album with a vast array of producers. We only see Lindsay going into recording studios on rare occasions (Tthough I’m aware of the fact that the paparazzi can’t follow her everywhere and that some people have studios at home these days. Wouldn’t be surprised if Samantha Ronson had one at home and they hang out a lot.) though is she actually recording a lot of songs? The production speed doesn’t really seem to be high. Even sister Ali seems to be recording on a more strict schedule while she was recording her album in Las Vegas(Though I don’t have high hopes for her music career, not that I’ve really heard her song outside of that Christmas album. I just don’t think people will go for a more less fabricated singer anymore).

I somehow doubt that going into a more urban direction would be good for Lindsay though. She never really appeared to take her music career completely seriously looking at the lack of touring and never actually singing live anywhere.
