Lacey Chabert and Mark Waters working together again
Friday, February 8th, 2008Lacey Chabert has joined the cast for Mark Waters’ romantic comedy The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. Others to star are Breckin Meyer, Anne Archer, Amanda Walsh, Emma Stone, Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner.
Connor (McConaughey) attends the wedding of his brother (Meyer) and bride (Chabert) where he’s haunted by several of his former girlfriends. It’s being set up as an interpretation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. This movie was actually supposed to be made in 2003 by Disney but they dropped it. Now the movie will be made by New Line Cinema.
The fact that Disney dropped the project doesn’t seem to be too promising, they seem to be able to judge whether a project will make money or not. New Line has a reputation of taking risks but this isn’t exactly a Lord of the Rings scale project. Chabert has worked with Waters before (Mean Girls) and that was a success, of course it isn’t a guarantee for more success. The story doesn’t seem that original to me, modern interpretations of old English stories aren’t always a success.
It is a vast improvement over other recent projects for Lacey though, she hasn’t made a big studio movie for quite some time.
