On Sunday the Teen Choice Awards 2008 hosted by Miley Cyrus were recorded and they were aired yesterday. I haven’t seen the show yet because I wasn’t able to but I’ve seen the results of the awards. With seeing the results I can already see the main problem I have with this award show:

If I counted correctly that’s 57 awards, a bit much if you ask me. Some categories seem a bit redundant. Can’t say that I can argue with the results the list is too long for that really, though they were decided by online vote and people were allowed to vote every day. At least it was Fox who decided on the nominees and not like MTV did also have an online vote for the VMA’s which resulted in probably the worst nominees list for any award show I’ve ever seen.

I might get back to the TCA’s once I’ve seen the show but for now people will have to do with the results.

Hayden has a music video

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

I’ve been wondering why Hollywood Records kept delaying the debut of Hayden Panettiere as a singer. She has been on the soundtrack of two Disney movies but now her first music video for the song called Wake Up Call has been released on the internet. I can now say I understand why it has been delayed.

Simple answer is; the song isn’t very good. No idea why they chose for a regae sound for her first song. Plainly said the song is just boring, the overdone music beat overpowers Hayden’s voice. I’ve never been very impressed by her voice and this just doesn’t either, it doesn’t sound different; it’s just another voice.

I also have to wonder what person decided that it would be a good idea for Hayden to rap in the song. She isn’t exactly a bad ass person. The entire video seems quite random anyway, can’t really detect a them to it. Just a lot of close ups, disco lights and other things. The exact date for her debut album isn’t known yet but I hope it will be a lot better than this. The problem just is that first singles often are the best songs of an album. So if that’s true for her album I’ll be asleep after listening it.

Hayden is a Wolf

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

Hayden Panettiere has signed to voice another animated movie, she’ll co-star with Justin Long. They’ll be doing the voices for Alpha and Omega, two always bickering wolves who are captured and taken thousands of miles from their home. They set out to rejoin their pack and go on a dangerous journey.

The movie will be distributed by Lionsgate so it’s not from a company with a lot of big feature animations like Dreamworks or Pixar. So we’ll have to see if the animation quality will be up to that level, though it’s almost impossible to reach the quality of Pixar for other companies. It’s marketed as a family film so it’s pretty much a safe story, so I doubt it will be a major blockbuster.

As with any animated feature; this is more of a side gig for Hayden. Her real work would still be on live action films and Heroes.

Hayden gets Hoodwinked

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

There’s going to be a Hoodwinked 2, the first one featuring the voice of Anne Hathaway was a fun movie but hardly a box office success. Apparently it’s enough to warrant a sequel but this time around Anne isn’t going to voice the main character Red, this time it will be Hayden Panettiere.

Others on the voice cast will be Glenn Close, David Ogden Stiers, Andy Dick, Patrick Warburton, John Cusack, Amy Poehler and Bill Hader. So it’s hardly a weak cast but as said, it wasn’t a major box office success. Sequels to this kind of movie rarely do well even if the original was underrated.

The Weinstein Company of course doesn’t have that much experience with computer animation which is a market which is being overpowered by Pixar. That’s a high target so it’s a good thing that they’re not trying to imitate them but rather do their own thing. Their also working with a fraction of the budget Pixar usually works with.

Edition 39: The Strike

Friday, February 8th, 2008

The WGA (Writers Guild of America) strike seems to be coming to an end now (it all seems to depend on a WGA meeting tomorrow), or who knows; once you read this it might be already over. But what kind of damage has it actually caused? Three months of strike don’t really go without consequence. We hear daily reports on how much money the movie industry has already lost this year.

I have to make clear that I support the writers (I’m trying to be one myself so I have to really), though I also understand the AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers). The main point of argument is the compensation for online content, so when they’ve made a TV show or movie and it’s also streamed on the internet. Of course the writers want to be paid for this but no one knows how the internet market will develop.

It’s a time where developments go really quickly, you can’t actually know how much money the internet content will make over the years. So it’s understandable that the studios were very hesitant, though pretty much paying them nothing at all is a bad idea when going into talks. At some times the strike got a bit silly though, there were some AMPTP and WGA mud slinging matches. (more…)
