Harry Potter Has Been Delayed

Friday, August 15th, 2008

Bad news for the Emma Watson fans, they’ll have to wait a while before they can see Emma in a movie; Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has been delayed. The movie was supposed to be released in November but has now been delayed to July 2009. Warner Brothers lists the writers strike earlier as the reason for the delay.

They were afraid that the movie wouldn’t be ready before its set release date. I would think they would have known about that sooner so I doubt that was the only decision that went into it. It’s funny to see that there are direct reactions from other studios though, Disney has moved the release of Bolt (featuring the voice of Miley Cyrus) to the original Harry Potter release date of November 21st. I guess they’re hoping to take the top spot at the box office that way seeing there are no other major releases set for the day. No one would want to put their movie on the same date as Harry Potter seeing it’s obvious Box Office gold.

Update: Summit Entertainment has responded as well, the release of Twilight (starring Kristen Stewart) has also been moved to November 21st.

Forbes top earners

Friday, July 25th, 2008

So I picked up Forbes magazine today because I knew they were having something about the top earning people in entertainment. These lists really aren’t a surprise anymore; they added a top earning tweens list. Result (obviously) is that Miley Cyrus is on top of that list with an income of $25 million (together with Daniel Radcliffe but it’s well known we limit ourselves to the female side here).

She’s followed by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen with $15 million, Ashley Tisdale with $5.5 million, Emma Watson with $5.5 million, Hilary Duff with $5 million and Vanessa Hudgens with $3.2 million. On a side note (well not that much of a side note) Keira Knightley made the top earning actresses list with $32 million.

More than I’ve ever made in my life but I’m actually surprised there’s that much of a difference between them, I knew Miley was the biggest young star out there I just didn’t realize the financial gap was that big. She managed to earn more money in a year at fifteen that most people will earn in their entire lives (though all of the ones listed have made more than most people do in a lifetime).

At the end of the issue they also added a thing I didn’t really get: Good Girls, Bad Girls; Who makes more, the squeaky clean or the jailbird queen? On the good side they have Miley Cyrus, Hilary Duff and Lauren Conrad. While on the bad side they have Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan. Seems a bit pointless to me really, in the end the good side wins of course.

I keep wondering where Forbes gets these numbers from though, it’s not like they can ring up the celebrity accountants and ask for the numbers. So they’re probably very well researched estimates.

Emma is Betsy

Friday, April 18th, 2008

Emma Watson has joined the cast for Napoleon and Betsy, a movie about Napoleon. A young English noblewoman on the Isle of St. Helena named Betsy falls in love with Napoleon who is in exile on the island. The movie is written and directed by Benjamin Ross, it’s scheduled to start shooting in the fall in Bulgaria.

The role was actually supposed to be played by Scarlett Johansson but she pulled out of the project because she saw herself as too old for the role. Scarlett and her mother Melanie are still staying on the project as a producer.

Though Emma already did a movie besides Harry Potter called Ballet Shoes this is her real first real role after Harry Potter. Ballet Shoes was just a TV movie on the BBC. So this is a big step in Emma’s career, even though no big studio has signed on to the project yet. Period drama’s usually have only a limited success at the box office but they’re never really easy for an actor. So we will have to wait and see if Emma can pull of a character which isn’t Hermione.

Edition 46: Official websites; one year later

Friday, April 11th, 2008

About a year ago I wrote about how pitiful a lot of the official websites for the people linked on starletlinks.com are. So I took a look at the sites a year later and also looked at other ones; there is good news and bad news.

Lets start with the bad examples of last year, it’s always best to start with the bad news. LLrocks.com, Lindsay Lohan’s official site still hasn’t received a single update. A last update on the 27th February 2005 was bad enough last year now it’s even worse, I can’t even imagine how little they care about her web presence. Yes of course she has more important things to take care off, she has to try and rebuild her career but a good web presence could be a sign to people that she really is serious about it. Though the Lohan family doesn’t take the internet serious anyway, they’re trying to launch Aliana Lohan’s career but her site is probably even worse than Lindsay’s, no information there whatsoever.

Another site that hasn’t received a single update in the past year is Abigail Breslin’s site. Just like last year it still mentions that she’s nominated for an Academy Award, this time last year we already know she didn’t win it. Looking at the website of Sofia Vassilieva who’s now Abigails co-star in My Sister’s Keeper it’s even worse. Not a single update in about seven years on a website for a girl that’s just fifteen. So her site hasn’t been updated for pretty much half her life, not the mention the very old school internet background music on the site. They don’t have to be active on the internet themselves, that might cause more trouble than it’s worth. But they should remember that they have a fanbase that does go online, they care and don’t like things like this. A good web presence shows that a celebrity cares about their fans, of course it doesn’t mean that Sofa and Abigail don’t but it’s not that big an effort.

Two more Potter movies

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

The last Harry Potter movie; the Deathly Hallows will be split into two movies. The movies will be shot back to back and directed by David Yates who also directed the previous one. The back to back thing probably has to do with the fact that they have to finish it now, Emma Watson and the others are almost grown up now so they have to hurry. The book is also a bit too big to do it one movie apparently.

I’m not a Harry Potter fan which seems to be rare but for Emma Watson this is really just something to end off the Harry Potter series. I bet it’s also a fairly good paycheck though, seeing she’ll now be paid for two movies instead of one.

When the movie is over they can all finally start and try building careers outside of Harry Potter.
