The Winning Season for Emma Roberts

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

Emma Roberts has signed on to co-star with Sam Rockwell and Rob Corddry in the high school comedy The Winning Season.

Rockwell plays a has-been coach who gets a shot as the coach of a high school girls basketball team. Emma is one of the players on the team he befriends, Corddry is the high school principal.

Sounds like your run of the mill high school movie to me, can’t say that anything about it really stands out so far. It will probably be one of those failing teams story where the coach comes in and gives a new spark to the team so they start winning again. There isn’t a full synopsis yet so no idea if that will really be it.

So far I would rank this as just another movie for Emma, nothing special.

The 13 Hottest Young Stars To Watch

Saturday, July 5th, 2008

Our friends at TVGuide.com send us an email saying that they had made a ranking of the 13 Hottest Young Stars to Watch, which was ranked by the TVGuide.com editors. So this was a democratic vote so no surprise that I wouldn’t have chosen all the people on the list.

It is funny that one person isn’t actually on the list but is used as the benchmark for the entire ranking; Miley Cyrus. So she’s still seen as far above all the others which isn’t really a surprise, there’s no way of avoiding her.

Just highlighting the female stars in the list they’re ranked as follows:
1. Selena Gomez
2. Demi Lovato
3. Miranda Cosgrove
4. Emily Osment
5. Brenda Song
7. Emma Roberts
8. Alyson Stoner
9. Ali Lohan
10. Jordan Pruitt
13. Meaghan Martin

The top three is pretty obvious, they’re simply the ones that are getting the most attention from the media. Though I’m somewhat starting to hate the line “The next Miley Cyrus” which is being used for Selena in this case. Fact just is that that can’t happen, none of the girls can be the next Miley Cyrus. Miley’s success was overnight with the launch of Hannah Montana, girls like Selena have done things already. They just can’t achieve the fast rise to fame that Miley had anymore. Though it does show at what high level Miley is seen these days, there’s nothing hire in her category.

I’m not going to address all names on the list, though I have to say that it doesn’t come as a surprise that Emily Osment, Emma Roberts, Ali Lohan and Jordan Pruitt are on it. Though Ali’s only rise to fame is her sister so far, she still hasn’t done any work for herself actually unless you want to count that lack of reality show Living Lohan.

Names I don’t understand being on there are Brenda Song and Meaghan Martin. This is going to sound strange but Brenda Song is a bit old to be on the list, she’s “already” twenty years old. So far she’s still only active within the Disney Channel world, for her to be really noticed she would have to step out of that. Meaghan Martin I first had to look up, can’t remember all names obviously, I simply don’t see what she has done outside of Camp Rock to be on that list. She doesn’t exactly have a lot of projects listed in the near future either.

I can’t really argue with the editors at TVGuide.com, they probably have some better sources for news than I have and are a bit more inside the industry. Just like this list wasn’t done by one person which probably means that probably not all the TVGuide editors agree with it. I could add names which I think are missing from the list but odds are that some of the editors actually did name them but they simply didn’t make it into the top 13.

Showbiz Kids Top 25

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

Last month Hollywood Reporter put out a list called Showbiz Kids Top 25, it’s a bit slow regarding news right now so lets take a look at the list. Hollywood Reporter is a serious publication so there is some merit to their opinions. Hollywood Reporter pretty much made a list of people active in Hollywood seventeen and under who they think have the biggest chance of making it big in Hollywood in the long run. The focus of this site is the female generation in Hollywood so I’m just going to highlight those in the list.

1. Miley Cyrus
2. Abigail Breslin
3. Dakota Fanning
4. Emma Watson
5. Emma Roberts

6. Cole and Dylan Sprouse
7. Freddie Highmore
8. Kristen Stewart
9. The Jonas Brothers
10. AnnaSophia Robb
11. Josh Hutcherson
12. Madison Pettis
13. Noah Gray-Cabey
14. Mark Indelicato
15. Angus T. Jones
16. Josh Flitter
17. Kyle Massey
18. Miranda Cosgrove
19. Jamie Lynn Spears

20. Spencer Breslin
21. Keke Palmer
22. Alex Etel
23. Nat and Alex Wolff
24. Selena Gomez
25. Liam Aiken

In general there aren’t any real shockers in that list though I didn’t know some of the names. I can’t know everyone in Hollywood after all, it shows that the list was made before all of the Jamie Lynn pregnancy stuff, I doubt they would have put her on the list if it had be known before that. The top five is pretty much a shoe in on the list so there’s just not a lot I can say about this list, Hollywood Reporter did their homework. Not that I doubted them in that regard, they serve as a valuable news source to this site.

Hotel for Dogs for Emma Roberts

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

Emma Roberts has gotten the starring role in the Dreamworks movie Hotel for Dogs. The story is about two orphaned teenagers who hide stray dogs in an abandoned hotel.

This role is just a logical continuation of her career at this point; she’s at the age where she’s popular with the teenage audience. She’s also going to do another Nancy Drew movie even though the first one didn’t make that big a profit.

She’s not at the stage in her career where she needs to experiment with roles quite yet, though she has to be careful not to do this kind of roles for too long. But for now it’s just a logical step, nothing more.
