If I counted correctly that’s 57 awards, a bit much if you ask me. Some categories seem a bit redundant. Can’t say that I can argue with the results the list is too long for that really, though they were decided by online vote and people were allowed to vote every day. At least it was Fox who decided on the nominees and not like MTV did also have an online vote for the VMA’s which resulted in probably the worst nominees list for any award show I’ve ever seen.

I might get back to the TCA’s once I’ve seen the show but for now people will have to do with the results.

Ellen Page gets the popcorn

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

Ellen Page has collected the MTV Movie Award for best female performance for her role in Juno. Not really a surprising choice there seeing she won more awards for that performance.

Otherwise not that much happened as far as people of interest to this site go, yes of course Lindsay Lohan presented an award but she has done that before. Only other notable thing was the opening sequence really, which pretty much consisted of a spoof of the M&M cru with a U and ACDC dance battle on youtube. In this case featuring Mike Myers and Chris Brown though, probably the first time MTV ever spoofed something from youtube instead from a movie.

I just don’t know what it is, in the past the MTV movie awards were better. Despite being a somewhat bogus award show (seeing it’s a public vote, those never really work).

Ellen Page in Jane Eyre

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

Variety reports that Ellen Page has signed on to star in (yet another) movie adaptation of Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre. The movie will be produced by the same people as The Other Boleyn Girl (Ruby Films and BBC Films). The screenplay was written by Moira Buffini, at this time there is no director.

Ellen sure likes to keep busy with movie projects recently; there’s nothing wrong with that. Her career is booming right now after Juno so this is the time for her to work.

I haven’t seen The Other Boleyn Girl yet so I don’t know how I would rate that movie but it would be a good indication of the quality of producer. Period drama’s are always a difficult thing, not everyone is interested in seeing them. Doesn’t mean it’s a bad movie to do, it’s just a movie which gets less attention from the general public.

Ellen drops out of hell

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

Ellen Page has dropped out of Sam Raimi’s Drag Me to Hell. Ellen was supposed to sta in the movie but due to a production process that takes longer than anticipated Ellen can’t manage to star in it. It would interfere with other projects she’s working on.

The main one would be Whip It where she also has to do some physical training to get into shape for the role. They wanted to push production on Drag Me to Hell to beat a possible SAG (Screen Actors Guild) strike which might be coming if they can’t agree to a deal with the AMPTP before June.

Ellen also hosted Saturday Night Live this weekend and I have to say: Ellen Page stay away from sketch comedy. SNL has been getting worse over the years but this one beat them all.

Ellen didn’t win

Monday, February 25th, 2008

Nothing major happened at the Oscars last night; most of the favourites actually won it seems. Which meant that Ellen Page did not win the Oscar for best actress, that honour went to Marion Cotillard. It’s rare that a foreign language actor wins an actor but it happened this time. However Diablo Cody did win the Oscar for best original screenplay so Juno didn’t go empty handed, who said that strippers can’t win Oscars?

I’ll post the list of winners for who’s interested:

Best live action short film
“Le Mozart des Pickpockets (The Mozart of Pickpockets)” (Premium Films)

“The Bourne Ultimatum” (Universal)

Achievement in visual effects
“The Golden Compass” (New Line in association with Ingenious Film Partners)

Adapted screenplay
“No Country for Old Men” (Miramax and Paramount Vantage)

Original screenplay
“Juno” (Fox Searchlight)

Why post the whole list including Oscars not that many people care about? Just a space filler in this case.

Starlets that actually attended the Award show were Anne Hathaway, Ellen Page (well of course she had to be there) and Miley Cyrus. Red seemed to be the colour of choice this year but I’m not going to judge the dresses like everyone else does. Seeing I’m not an fashion expert at all.
