Fannings out, Breslin and Vassilieva in

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

Dakota and Elle Fanning won’t be starring in the My Sister’s Keeper after all; after Dakota was asked if she would consider shaving off her hair she and her sister withdrew from the movie right away. Their parts are now set to be played by Sofia Vassilieva and Abigail Breslin, Sofia of course playing the older and Abigail playing the younger sister who sues for emancipation.

The sole reason why she was created was to be a genetic match for her sick older sister. Cameron Diaz plays their mother and Alec Baldwin will play the lawyer representing the little girl. John Cusack will also be part of the cast. The movie still sounds good with a cast that’s getting rather impressive, even though it doesn’t seem to be the normal big studio (New Line) kind of movie.

As I understand it, it really wasn’t a demand that Dakota would shave of her hair but it was still enough for both Fanning sisters to pull out of the movie. Of course I don’t know the details but it seems to me that it’s something that can be talked about. It seems a bit harsh to pull out of a movie just because of a request. I doubt Vassilieva would be very willing to have her head shaved but we’ll have to see about that.

Would be a pity to see all of Sofia’s hair go but it would show that she’s prepared to go the extra mile for a movie. To be perfectly honest, I see the replacement as an improvement to the cast. Not that the Fanning sisters are bad I just have higher regard for the acting talents of Breslin and Vassilieva. Though I still have to see if they work as sisters, for the Fannings it wouldn’t have been hard to play sisters convincingly. The shooting schedule is set to stay as it was.

Two new roles for Fanning

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

Well actually there’s one role for each of the Fanning sisters in the movie My Sister’s Keeper. The movie will co-star Cameron Diaz as the mother of Dakota and Elle. The movie is from the writers and producers that also made the Notebook. The movie is about a young girl (Elle) who sues for emancipation from her parents, the only reason her parents got her was so they would have a genetic match for her sister (Dakota) who suffers from cancer.

This won’t be the first time that Elle and Dakota are in the same movie but it will be the first time that they’re on screen at the same time. The movie is based on the novel of the same name though the characters are a bit younger than in the book. Otherwise they would have gotten a completely different cast, so other mother and other kids.

That last part is already the main problem I see there; Elle is nine right now though the movie probably won’t start shooting for a while. Still once that starts she’ll probably be no older than ten, I don’t see how a ten year old can sue for emancipation from her parents. Otherwise the concept seems good for a drama and might show who of the Fanning sister has the upper hand talent wise.

I just hope that they can make the emancipation story believable for a ten year old otherwise this movie is going to suck just on that detail.

Edition 26: Sisters

Friday, October 5th, 2007

It’s quite common for siblings to be in the entertainment business. The same is true for the younger generation; people can probably notice that some people on starletlinks.com and starletviews.com share the same last name. This is of course because they’re sisters. Though it makes you wonder, who will have the bigger career in the end. So basically who is the most talented even though shear talent doesn’t always seem to be enough.

On starletlinks.com there are two main sister pares featured; Dakota and Elle Fanning are probably the best known ones right now. Dakota is four years older than Elle, that doesn’t really mean she works more though. While Dakota is in the spot light more than her little sister; Elle manages to pull of more movies a year than Dakota. Though I would have to add that a lot of the roles Elle does are smaller, supporting roles instead of starring roles. However she works with experienced actors like Denzel Washington and Brad Pitt, a perfect learning ground.

The fact that Dakota is in the spotlight more might help Elle in the end, she can stay in the background and slowly learn the trade. While Dakota might very well get stuck with the stigma of child star forever; Elle will probably have less of a problem with that. If I had to judge on pure talent I’m not certain actually, I have some movies with Elle and Dakota but not quite enough to form a definite opinion. Right now there isn’t that much of a difference between them I would say, though as I said I rate Elle’s chances in the long run higher.

Edition 21: The stuff people search for on the internet…..

Friday, August 31st, 2007

I’m a webmaster; as any other webmaster I like a lot of visitors on my site. I’m also a curious fellow and like to look at the statistics for the site, the main thing I’m interested in is the keywords people enter into their search engine to get to the site. The keywords on starletlinks.com are quite normal, a lot of cases of people misspelling names but nothing really dramatic. Then there are the keywords for starletviews.com; there’s some weird stuff in there.

Not too long ago I did a story about that there seem to be a lot of young Hollywood stars that smoke; since then key phrases like “miley cyrus smoking a cigarette“, “Emily osment smoking a cigarette” (actually the top search result for the last month) and even “elle fanning smoking”. The people that search for things like that should realise one thing, if someone like that would smoke you wouldn’t be able to find pics of it. The people behind them would do everything in their power to prevent from something like that coming out. And to the person searching for pics of Elle Fanning smoking; try to step into the real world, she’s nine years old. I don’t even know why someone would attempt a search like that.

Miley Cyrus seems to be a popular target for strange keywords anyway, I’ve also seen the phrases “miley cyrus getting in trouble with the law” and “miley cyrus going to rehab” coming by, not to mention that people are even searching for pics of her posing in Maxim. She’s fourteen! There won’t be pics like that, and people shouldn’t be searching for them. Not that Miley doesn’t dress to suggest otherwise. People also try to find out when she’s eighteen; they’ll have to wait a little over three years for that.

Elle Fanning in Vivaldi

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

Elle Fanning has joined the cast for Vivalii, a biopic abbout the life of the Italian composer. The movie is to be released in 2008.

Looking at Elle Fanning’s filmography this isn’t really an odd choice; she seems to be the standard choice as the younger kid in any more serious movie these days. But movie makers wouldn’t be asking her if she didn’t have the talent to pull it off. She’s very busy building a more impressive resume than her older sister Dakota.

The funniest thing about this movie for her would probably be that she’s American. Looking at the rest of the cast that consists of Malcolm McDowell, Joseph Fiennes, Jacqueline Bisset (all English), Gerard Depardieu (French), Carice van Houten (Dutch) she’s pretty much the only American on the cast.
