The nominees are in

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

Sorry for all the Miley Cyrus fans but she didn’t get nominated for Best Original Song, the nominees in that category are:

WALL-E
“Down to Earth”
Slumdog Millionaire
“Jai Ho”
Slumdog Millionaire
“O Saya”

Which one has to admit is an odd selection, especially Bruce Springsteen not being there is a major surprise. He recently won the Critics Choice Award and Golden Globe after all. Miley Cyrus was one of the main favourites together with Jeffrey Steele for I Thought I Lost You but it’s not uncommon for the Academy to nominate unexpected songs.

On a positive note; Anne Hathaway actually did get a nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her role in Rachel Getting Married, she has quite some competition though:

Rachel Getting Married; Anne Hathaway
Changeling; Angelina Jolie
Frozen River; Melissa Leo
Doubt; Meryl Streep
The Reader; Kate Winslet

Disney did get some nominations though, Wall-E got quite a few technical nominations and even one for Best Original Script. In the Best Animated Feature category the nominees are:

Bolt; Chris Williams and Byron Howard
Kung Fu Panda; John Stevenson and Mark Osborne
WALL-E; Andrew Stanton

Disney is actually dominating that category with two nominations, not that they needed to nominate anyone; Wall-E is going to win anyway.  Though personally; the nomination for Kung Fu Panda is a joke, it has no place being on that list.

There is no doubt that everyone will be talking about the Best Actor in a Suporting Role nomination for Heath Ledger, that’s why we won’t.

Miley Didn’t Win

Monday, January 12th, 2009

Miley Cyrus didn’t win the Golden Globe for best Original Song for I Thought I Lost You which she wrote together with Jeffrey Steele. There’s no shame in losing to someone like Bruce Springsteen who won for The Wrestler. He also beat miley earlier this week at the Critics Choice Awards.

Later today the polls will close for the Oscar nominations, it will be interesting to see if Miley will get nominated for that one as well. Though with Bruce Springsteen winning both the Critics Choice Award and the Golden Globe he would be the clear favorite.

A couple of days ago there was a bit of a mistake on the Golden Globe website; Anne Hathaway was listed as winner for her role in Rachel Getting Married. They insisted it was no indication of who would win; it clearly wasn’t seeing Kate Winslet won. Or was it and did they change the outcome?

Anne is a Fiance

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Anne Hathaway has landed yet another role; this time in the romantic comedy The Fiance. It’s about a woman who cancels her wedding and breaks up with her fiance to try and find who she really is. Her parents try to fix her relationship which doesn’t make it possible for her to move on.

The story is too vague to really say anything about it really, though my hopes for the project aren’t too high. Disney was supposed to make the movie, they dropped the project and one of the producers managed to get Anne attached to the project. Only then Warner Brothers and other studios were interested after which Warner decided to go for it. The script is being rewritten now so who knows what the end result of that will be, it can be good or it can be bad.

The movie will start shooting in March after which she’ll apparently continue with a sequel to Get Smart. She sure can’t complain about being out of work right now.

Anne Joins Alice

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

Anne Hathaway has joined the cast of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland; she has been cast for the character of the White Queen Who was deposed and banished by her sister the Red Queen. She joins Mia Wasikowska as Alice and Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. It’s not exactly a big shocker that Tim Burton also cast his wife Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen.

In fact; as soon as the movie was announced I already said that Johnny Depp would be the Mad Hatter and Helena Bonham Carter would be the Red Queen, though at the time it was said as a joke. Guess Tim Burton is getting a bit too predictable with his casting choices though I didn’t expect him to cast Anne for the role of the White Queen.

Anne has gotten good feedback for her role in Rachel Getting Married and after all the problems in her personal life this is probably a good thing for her to come across her path. Though I still don’t like the sound of this project; the general feeling I have with the Alice in Wonderland movie is that it won’t do justice to the story. Casting the way too old Mia Wasikowska is just one of the problems.

What storyline will be is also a bit of a question now; the character of the White Queen isn’t from Alice in Wonderland but from Through the Looking-Glass, the sequel novel. It seems that Tim Burton is going to borrow some aspects from that novel as well. I’m also worried about the amount of motion capture that will be used in the movie. Though we’ll have to wait for the final result to see if it does the story justice. There however is no doubt in my mind that this movie will be a major success.

Anne Hathaway in Bride Wars

Friday, December 7th, 2007

Variety reports that Anne Hathaway is set to star alongside Kate Hudson in the comedy Bride Wars. The story is about two best friends who get into a fight when their wedding dates clash and neither wants to give in. They’re competing for the same guests, venues and services; hence the name Bride Wars. Hudson will always be producing the movie. The movie will be shot in early 2008, the script was completed before the writers strike started.

This sounds like quite a standard comedy at first glance; though with a combination of Hudson and Hathaway it will probably do well at the box office. There’s nothing wrong with doing an uncomplicated comedy once in a while in a career.
