Anna Paquin coming to TV

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

Anna Paquin is going to star in the HBO TV series True Blood. The series is based on the book Southern Vampire by Charlaine Harris, the story takes place in a world in which vampires can buy synthetic blood. They try to integrate into a small town in Louisiana causes a stir when a vampire and a waitress (Anna’s character) fall in love.

The show is basically the successor to Six Feet Under which was also made by director/producer Alan Ball. The shooting for the show will start in the fall.

It’s not uncommon for Hollywood stars to do shows on pay cable channels like HBO. With Anna Paquin there’s just one issue; since she won her Oscar at age twelve that was pretty much the high of her career. After that she never really appeared in a lot of big productions, she had some minor successes but never anything that really made her stand out. And I’m not counting X-Men in this case because the supporting cast for those movies is just too big for anyone to stand out.

So in this case it might be a sign of an ever declining career as far as success in the movie business goes. There are more movies in her production schedule so this really might just be a sidestep into the world of television.

Anna Paquin and a Cockroach

Monday, July 30th, 2007

Anna Paquin has signed on to play a part in a movie adaptation of Franz Kafka’s novel Metamorphosis. Starring will be Daniel Bruhl, an actor who made his name through the name Goodbye Lenin. The movie will be directed by Limor Diamant.

I’m not sure how they’re going to turn this thing into a movie; a guy turns into a cockroach. I read the book and I’m not quite sure in what way they’re going to use the original story in that. It has a decent budget for this kind of movie though, so who knows they might surprise us.

But this is the road Anna seems to be taking, be in smaller movies instead of the bigger ones (some exceptions here and there of course). And if she’s happy doing that I think it’s fine, there at least is a clear structure in her career.
