Lindsay on Ugly Betty

Monday, May 5th, 2008

There was a rumour going around that Lindsay Lohan was to guest star on the ABC show Ugly Betty (main star America Ferrera of course). For a change the rumour is actually true, Lindsay was already spotted on the set of Ugly Betty. Now it has been confirmed that she’ll be in the season finale with a possible expansion into the first part of the next season (there’s talk of about five to eight episodes).

There are some people that see this as a big return for Lindsay but I wouldn’t see it that way quite yet (though she apparently showed up early to set, something she was known to have trouble with in the past). It’s just a TV guest spot, it’s a tiny step. If she proves she can do a good job on that as far as work ethic goes more producers might be willing to risk putting her in films again. It’s just a process that takes time.

American Ferrera going invisible

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

America Ferrera has been signed to star in An Invisible Sign of My Own, a novel based drama about the 20-year Mona Gray who turned to math as a child when her father became ill. Now she’s a math teacher and has to help their students to their own crisis.

This is a very small project (which isn’t a bad thing) and America has a very short period to shoot it in due to her contract with ABC. So not really a lot I can say about this movie, it’s by a first time scripted movie director so that’s always a risk. Though small independent movies can never really hurt, they’re a great way to gain acting experience.

America going the animated way

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

America Ferrera has signed on to voice one of the characters in the Dreamworks CGI-animated movie How to Train Your Dragon. She’ll co-star with Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Jonah hill and Christopher Mintz-Plasse.

The movie is based on a children’s book series, it’s centered about the timid son of a Viking chief. To be initiated into his tribe he has to capture and train a dragon. America voices the character of Astrid who partners up with the son to train the dragon.

Animated movies of course are less of an acting challenge than live action movies. The story sounds like a real animated movie, it’s probably not a movie which could be done very well in live action. It’s also aimed at kids so the animation part makes sense, for America it’s probably a decent paycheck and a fun time.

Edition 33: Rising Starlets 2007

Friday, November 30th, 2007

There are dozens of pointless lists on the internet during a year, most of which show up at the end the year. If you ask me I would say most of them are useless, in the end people will make their own judgement on who they think is best. So that’s why starletviews is introducing “the rising Starlets of 2007”, a list that shows who of the younger generation is climbing the Hollywood ladder. It’s extremely subjective because it was made by just one person: me. No public voting was involved to manipulate the results in any way.

America Ferrera wins at the emmy’s

Monday, September 17th, 2007

America Ferrera has won the emmy for best actress in a comedy series for Ugly Betty. Ugly Betty itself also won the emmy for best directing in a comedy series.

Not that many starlet involved TV shows were nominated this year, Hannah Montana failed to win the emmy for best children’s program.
