Amber becomes a cop

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

Amber Tambly has signed on to star in the ABC pilot Unusuals. It’s a dramedy (so a drama combined with a comedy) which takes place in a New York police precinct, Amber plays detective Casey Shraeger who is a smart cop but also doesn’t fit in with her wealthy family. Harold Perrineau (Lost) has also signed on for the pilot (so he’ll be gone from Lost again probably).

Not that much to say about the show yet seeing there’s not that much information about it. Only that she would be playing one of the youngest detectives on TV I figure. I can’t say that I’m too surprised she’s returning to TV (seeing her biggest success so far would be Joan or Arcadia), her movie career hasn’t been too bad so far but not a major successful one either. Of course we don’t know if this will ever make it to TV.

Amber Tamblyn to star in 50’s remake

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

Amber Tambly has signed on to co-star with Michael Douglas and Jesse Metcalfe in the remake of the 1956 movie Beyond a Reasonable Doubt. The movie is about a journalist who investigates a corrupt district attorney who sets himself up as a murder suspect. The District attorney uncovers his plot and incriminates the guy. The movie will be directed by Peter Hyams, shooting of the movie will start March 3rd.

It’s being described as a present day film noir, so the story won’t play in the period of the original but in present day. I’m never sure about remake projects, in general I’m not a fan of them. In this case however it’s not really a remake, the story will just be based on the original. It’s set in present day so you can’t really call it a remake, though the same title and the same general story outline make it a remake.

As for Amber’s career I don’t know what kind of effect it will have, she still hasn’t broken through into major Hollywood roles but she seems to be getting a steady stream of work now. Working with experienced actors like Michael Douglas (not that he’s one of my favourites, the opposite really) is always a good thing if you’re still developing a career.

Amber Tamblyn in The Russel Girl

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

Amber Tamblyn is going to star opposite of Mary Elizabeth Mastreantonio, Jennifer Ehle, Tim Dekay and Henry Czerny in the CBS TV movie The Russel Girl. Amber will play an aspiring medical student who visits her home town to share important news with her family but ends up confronting her own past.

The plot description is a bit vague which is quite normal this early in development. Still it doesn’t sound like anything special; it’s just a TV movie and those rarely have great original plot lines.

This seems just to be side project for Amber seeing she also has three cinematic releases planned for 2008. Though none of those roles seem to stand out right now (though you never know until a movie is released) their still a level higher than a CBS TV movie. It makes me wonder why she would take such a role; the only thing I can think of is that it’s a favour to CBS. The network that used to air Joan of Arcadia or who knows the script might be quite good.
