Living Lohan again

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

I haven’t written anything about Living Lohan in a while but I’m still watching it. Why? I honestly don’t know, I guess I need a good laugh once in a while. What’s funny to me is that the Lohan family is trying to prove that they’re a normal family but the entire thing is just so staged that it does the opposite of that. I have no idea what the Lohan family is like while watching this show.

This weeks episode dealt mainly with Ali Lohan auditioning for a role in the movie Troll. She got the part but it’s still not confirmed officially yet by either the Lohans or the people making it. I guess they still have to sort out certain things. But this episode made me lose what little belief I had in Ali ever making it big in Hollywood.

The main reason for this is that Ali goes into complaint/diva mode when Dina tells her that the audition is the day after she got the script. Ali might be right in saying that she needs time to prepare but she should realise that not every fourteen year old gets the chance to be invited to audition for a movie. If there is an opportunity then take it, there are thousands of girls that would jump at the chance.

That’s besides the point that I think it’s a horrible idea to take a role in this movie. It’s actually a remake of a movie from 1986 by the same name and the same director. It’s not exactly known as a good movie (looking at general reviews and ratings on big movie sites like imdb and rottentomatoes) though it probably fits best in the B-movie genre. I myself haven’t seen it but I don’t exactly get why someone would remake a movie that hasn’t exactly made tons of money in the past. Despite special effects being a lot better these days.

Something else that was very noticeable was during the audition when the director showed Ali a sketch of the character she would be playing. The sketch showed a girl with very big breasts. What director draws a character with a lot of focus on breasts and then asks a fourteen year old to audition for it? Though he also asked her to make it delicious during the audition.

Then again it would probably fit Ali looking at how she has been dressing on the show. She seems to like to wear outfits that squeeze her breasts together and also includes a lot of belly showing. She should dress the way she feels most comfortable in but in the public eye it might send the wrong message. I’m not a casting director so I can’t really say how she did during the audition, we obviously can’t see all of it.

In general I just think that Ali won’t make it because she doesn’t have the right attitude. She just complains too much on the show about whenever she has to do something for her own career, that’s the main impression the show has given me so far. As far as acting talent goes I just have no idea yet, seeing we’ve never seen her act. Well outside of Living Lohan anyway.

Not good enough Ali

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Last week we could already hear part of Ali Lohan’s first song, All The Way Around, as it was being recorded while she was shooting Living Lohan. At that time I wasn’t exactly convinced by the song and now that a higher quality clip of the song has appeared online I’m even less convinced. If people want to listen to it; it can be found through the usual method of searching for it on youtube.

When listening to it I get the distinct impression that it doesn’t sound the same as when it was being recorded. Pretty much meaning that the pitch of Ali’s voice was changed in editing. I would say she didn’t actually didn’t sound too bad voice wise so I don’t know why they did it. That doesn’t actually help the song seeing it’s pretty much mass produced crap.

The music going with the song hasn’t even heard of the word musical instrument as it comes straight from a computer. That in itself wouldn’t be a bad thing if it was actually good music. When recording this thing she just showed up and sang this thing; she didn’t actually have a role in creating it. There just isn’t any personal touch to it, it’s just a song that doesn’t mean anything. If Ali really wants to succeed in the music business she at least has to involve herself a little bit in the creating of the music she makes.

I’m still not convinced that Ali really wants to do it; in the last episode of Living Lohan she almost had a meltdown after one day of recording accompanied by diva behaviour. Things like that don’t make me think that Ali has a long career ahead of her.

Edit: People.com has posted the full song so that’s where you can listen to it.

The 13 Hottest Young Stars To Watch

Saturday, July 5th, 2008

Our friends at TVGuide.com send us an email saying that they had made a ranking of the 13 Hottest Young Stars to Watch, which was ranked by the TVGuide.com editors. So this was a democratic vote so no surprise that I wouldn’t have chosen all the people on the list.

It is funny that one person isn’t actually on the list but is used as the benchmark for the entire ranking; Miley Cyrus. So she’s still seen as far above all the others which isn’t really a surprise, there’s no way of avoiding her.

Just highlighting the female stars in the list they’re ranked as follows:
1. Selena Gomez
2. Demi Lovato
3. Miranda Cosgrove
4. Emily Osment
5. Brenda Song
7. Emma Roberts
8. Alyson Stoner
9. Ali Lohan
10. Jordan Pruitt
13. Meaghan Martin

The top three is pretty obvious, they’re simply the ones that are getting the most attention from the media. Though I’m somewhat starting to hate the line “The next Miley Cyrus” which is being used for Selena in this case. Fact just is that that can’t happen, none of the girls can be the next Miley Cyrus. Miley’s success was overnight with the launch of Hannah Montana, girls like Selena have done things already. They just can’t achieve the fast rise to fame that Miley had anymore. Though it does show at what high level Miley is seen these days, there’s nothing hire in her category.

I’m not going to address all names on the list, though I have to say that it doesn’t come as a surprise that Emily Osment, Emma Roberts, Ali Lohan and Jordan Pruitt are on it. Though Ali’s only rise to fame is her sister so far, she still hasn’t done any work for herself actually unless you want to count that lack of reality show Living Lohan.

Names I don’t understand being on there are Brenda Song and Meaghan Martin. This is going to sound strange but Brenda Song is a bit old to be on the list, she’s “already” twenty years old. So far she’s still only active within the Disney Channel world, for her to be really noticed she would have to step out of that. Meaghan Martin I first had to look up, can’t remember all names obviously, I simply don’t see what she has done outside of Camp Rock to be on that list. She doesn’t exactly have a lot of projects listed in the near future either.

I can’t really argue with the editors at TVGuide.com, they probably have some better sources for news than I have and are a bit more inside the industry. Just like this list wasn’t done by one person which probably means that probably not all the TVGuide editors agree with it. I could add names which I think are missing from the list but odds are that some of the editors actually did name them but they simply didn’t make it into the top 13.

A third Lohan sister

Friday, June 27th, 2008

So it turns out that Lindsay and Ali Lohan have a thirteen year old half-sister who was born from a brief relationship Michael Lohan had with another woman while he and Dina were separated. Cody Lohan was born after that so at that time it was only temporary.

I just want to point out that this is all I’m going to say about it, I’m not sure who went to the media. So if it was the kids mother or if it was a plan conceived by Michael Lohan, seeing Dina has getting all the media attention lately with Living Lohan. I just think it’s a sad thing that all of this is being done over the back over a thirteen year old girl. She probably didn’t ask for any attention like this so I hope she’ll manage to keep her identity secret in the future. Unless she wants the attention of course.

Though I suspect it’s already too late, certain media are probably on a quest now to find out who this thirteen year old girl is and buy the story. Lindsay can’t help it either, it’s hardly her fault that her parents are the way they are. Things like this aren’t exactly a positive thing for her career either. With Ali I think they’ll take any press coverage they can get, that includes this.

The realism continues

Monday, June 16th, 2008

I don’t know why I keep watching Living Lohan, the more I see of it the more it just seems like a bunchload of crap, no realism to it whatsoever. To prove my point a short analysis of episode number four of parts that don’t make sense.

  • Dina feels the need to defend her parenting to Michael, to say what a good parent she is. What mother would feel the need to defend her parenting to her own son? Especially on camera.
  • Ali sneaks out to get a dog, with an adult who’s very aware of the fact that Dina doesn’t want her to get one. I know no adult who would do that, also the fact that she’s allowed to keep it in the end suggests that this was all staged.
  • Michael is prepared to fight with his girlfriend Nina on camera but tries to keep Ali out of it. It would be more realistic if they fought behind closed doors and tried to kept the cameras out of it. This is just as staged as any scripted TV show, well this thing is clearly scripted so I hope that Dina is a WGA member.
  • And as a last note, why would a fourteen year old need to gyrate her butt when going up the stairs? Besides wearing rather short tops that a lot of parents wouldn’t allow their kids to wear.

The only realism part to the show I think is Cody not being happy about the cameras being there. Well and Dina Lohan looking like a control freak, that would make sense seeing this show is under her control. That’s all the show does, make Cody look sad, make Ali look like a drama queen and make Dina look like a control freak. The cameraman should also get his camera out of the cleavage of the girls on this show (that includes Ali, who doesn’t even have that much cleavage yet).

I just wish they at least tried to make this show look realistic.
