Sometimes you have to wonder who of the current young stars will have long careers; who are the stars that will still be around in twenty years or so. I would have to point out that it’s something that is impossible to predict, you can’t know what will be popular in twenty years and what won’t. Who knows whether things like TV or movies will still be a major thing, it’s even hard to predict how things will be in a year. Yet I’m going to say who of the current generation of under eighteen female celebrities will have a long career and will be still be big names in 2028. It’s mainly based on gut feeling about their talents, so it’s just my opinion and nothing more.
The hard thing about it is also that a lot of actresses and singers don’t have their breakthrough until at a later age, being a child or teen star isn’t a guarantee to being successful in the future. Someone who’s a complete nobody now can be the big thing in twenty years time, that really is something that is impossible to predict. That’s why I’m sticking to the teen stars that are the big thing right now, I’ll only name the people I’m really confident in that they will make it. From the people that are usually featured on this site I can only think of two though. Read the rest of this entry »

When I heard that Vanessa Hudgens was putting out a second album I expected more of the same. Listening to the end result I would say that in certain aspects that fits and in others it doesn’t. Read the rest of this entry »

Hollywood Records has released Miley Cyrus’ second music video (I’m not counting the dozens of Hannah Montana videos), the first one being Start All Over. I never liked Start All Over, it was just too random. 7 things already seems more interesting before even watching it; it’s directed by Brett Ratner. Considered to be one of the best music video directors in the business and also director of several blockbuster movies.
It shows that this wasn’t done by a thirteen in a dozen director; the lighting is not exactly standard. I first had my doubts about the plain the grey background but the backlighting creates a lot of shade which actually makes that work. What also makes the video different is that the cameras don’t move at all; this isn’t exactly a new thing to do but hardly a standard move. It works for the video though, it gives a closeness to it and it actually gives Miley a chance to do her own thing, she manages to express a lot of emotion with her eyes. There are no camera tricks involved in this video, they aren’t hiding anything (except for the upskirt shots that showed up in the promo pictures for the video, thankfully they manage to avoid those in the video).
The theme of the song is of course a breakup, the question on everyones mind is who is the song about? She actually shows a picture of the person it’s about but the face isn’t shown. However there has always been speculation that Miley wears a medical alert pendant to support Nick Jonas. I’ve always dismissed that as nonsense because who would be so insane to wear a diabetic alert tag when you’re a hypoglycemic? I still think it’s her own dogtag but she makes good use of people associating it with Nick Jonas, she repeatedly clenches the tag throughout the video. That’s also a sign that a good director was involved in this, small hints instead of obvious signs.
I always had my doubts about the big tempo changes in 7 Things but Brett Ratner dealt with those well. The video just works for the song, unlike Start All Over where song and video had no interaction or connection at all. Though I have to say Miley is overacting a bit towards the end of the video for the rest she does an excellent job. So does the rest of the cast in the video, meaning the other girls that had bad break ups. The video ends with a silent I Love You, makes you wonder if that’s directed at Nick Jonas as well. This video just shows that not all Hollywood Records music videos are bad like Vanessa Hudgens’ Sneakernight.
Miley does prove something with the video though, she’s more than Hannah Montana. There isn’t a single point in this video where you associate this girl with Hannah Montana or even Disney. The chart performance of the song so far proves that and with the video it should do a lot better in that department at well. No idea how high it will go but I highly doubt that she’ll stop at her current 10th position in the Billboard Hot 100. Though I still have to say that the subject is a bit advanced for a fifteen year old; then again this is Miley, normal standards hardly apply.

So it turns out that Lindsay and Ali Lohan have a thirteen year old half-sister who was born from a brief relationship Michael Lohan had with another woman while he and Dina were separated. Cody Lohan was born after that so at that time it was only temporary.
I just want to point out that this is all I’m going to say about it, I’m not sure who went to the media. So if it was the kids mother or if it was a plan conceived by Michael Lohan, seeing Dina has getting all the media attention lately with Living Lohan. I just think it’s a sad thing that all of this is being done over the back over a thirteen year old girl. She probably didn’t ask for any attention like this so I hope she’ll manage to keep her identity secret in the future. Unless she wants the attention of course.
Though I suspect it’s already too late, certain media are probably on a quest now to find out who this thirteen year old girl is and buy the story. Lindsay can’t help it either, it’s hardly her fault that her parents are the way they are. Things like this aren’t exactly a positive thing for her career either. With Ali I think they’ll take any press coverage they can get, that includes this.

The new Billboard Hot 100 chart is in and the result is; Miley Cyrus barely beats out Demi Lovato. Miley gained sixty spots going from #70 to #10 since last week with 7 Things. Demi Lovato meanwhile together with Joe Jonas goes directly to #11 with This Is Me which makes it the highest charted new song this week.
So what does this mean? Is Demi really that big a threat to Miley? If you can talk about a threat really, Disney wants both Miley and Demi to do well. If you would see it as a competition I don’t think so. This Is Me won’t have a very long shelf life I think, Camp Rock aired this week so that’s the main reason why it’s up there right now. I expect it to maybe gain a little next week and then go back down again. The soundtrack for Camp Rock made it to #3 on the Billboard 200 with decent sales numbers, it just had the bad luck of being released in a week with albums that had a far higher demand.
Miley on the other hand has her music video for 7 things coming out which should help the airplay and sales and to be totally blunt, 7things is just a better song than This Is Me. Not to mention that Miley actually wrote the song herself. You also have to consider another thing, See You Again was her previous single that made it to #10 in the Billboard charts but that took over ten weeks. 7 Things made it there within three weeks, so I expect it to gain quite a bit, how high I don’t know. Just shows that Miley is escaping the children’s market and going mainstream.

The end of the dance battle is coming, ACDC has posted a video announcing the live dance battle just like the M&M Cru with a U did in their last video. I have no idea what to expect or where this is going to happen.
It’s probably going to be a big event seeing that this has gotten quite some attention so far. But who will win, when and where? We just don’t know yet we’ll just have to wait. In any way: to be continued

Hilary Duff has signed on to co-star with Winona Ryder, Mark Polish, Sean Astin and Chevy Chase in the comedy Stay Cool. The story is about a successful author who has to confront his high school crush when he goes home to address a group of graduating seniors. Hilary will play Shasta O’Neil who’s a sexy high school senior who flirts with the author and invites him to the prom. The movie will be written and produced by Mark and Michael Polish.
I’ve said before that Hilary needs to get rid of her sweet roles; she already tried with War Inc. but that movie struggles to be even released. This is only half a step, again she plays a high school student though this time not the sweet one. So I’m not sure about this one, the cast isn’t that promising to be honest. I can’t even remember when Chevy Chase had a notable role, his career high was back in the seventies and eighties.
So this role isn’t too bad for Hilary but I think she needs to take bigger steps to really make an impact as an actress.

Not really a surprise but Disney is working on a sequel to Camp Rock. There isn’t a script yet but the sequel is planned to start shooting in the late spring or summer of 2009. It would be this late mainly due to the fact that the stars of the movie would be the same as in the first one and they’re busy. So this would mean that the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato will make a return to Camp Rock. There isn’t a script for it yet so no one can say anything about the plot, I just hope it will be less predictable.
This is just logical if you look at the standard Disney sequel procedures, though it would be a TV movie again of course. This is just a normal process in the Disney career for people like Demi. I just don’t think that a sequel to Camp Rock will do as well as a sequel to High School Musical. Unlike High School Musical, Camp Rock was advertised big from the start. I can’t say this is either good or bad for someone like Demi, her Disney career hasn’t fully started yet so right now it’s just logical.
On a sidenote it looks like the soundtrack for Camp Rock will enter the Billboard 200 at number three.

Apparently Ashley Tisdale is getting further involved in the Disney empire. She’s working with Disney Channel on a show based on her own teenage years when she worked in a mall. I’d give you a source link but seeing the information is IMDB Pro that’s not exactly possible. The show is still in the pitch status though which means that they are interested in the show and that they’re now working on coming up with a more extensive story and might start work on a pilot script.
Ashley Tisdale is attached as a producer right now, it wouldn’t make much sense for her to star in it herself seeing she’s a bit old for the part now. I also would have said it’s a career killer to be on another Disney show but luckily that’s not the case. There’s no guarantee that this show will be made though, it could be killed before a pilot is even made.
Being a producer on a show isn’t really a bad thing, she’s expanding her horizons in show business that way. Who knows, she might enjoy it more than acting. Though if this show gets made I don’t know how excited I’d be about seeing about Ashley’s life in a mall or how realistic it would actually be. I can only imagine it would be loosely based on her own life.

On Friday Disney Channel aired its newest original movie Camp Rock; or in a different way of saying a way for Disney to promote the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato. The ratings weren’t actually bad with an average of 8.9 million viewers watching the movie. Disney probably hoped for High School Musical numbers but those were twice as high when High School Musical 2 aired last year. The reviews weren’t exactly favorable to the movie but I still watched it.
The premise of the movie is simple; the somewhat misfit girl (played by Demi Lovato) can go to an exclusive music camp because her mother is hired as the cook. First thing she does when she gets there is deny everything she is and pretends to be someone else. She hangs out with the cool girls at the camp even though she’d rather hang out with the more normal girls. In the end of course she gets betrayed by the cool girls and returns to being herself. I don’t really understand why she’d be taken back by her “real” friends when she ditched them about an hour after meeting them.
Joe Jonas is the rock star with problems who gets sent there to get himself under control. In an of course moment yet again he falls in love with Demi’s character. In all honesty it’s all just a bit too predictable, there’s nothing wrong in movies being predictable especially not for the demographic this movie is aimed at. Even a six year old can say what’s going to happen next in this movie. Another of course moment is that the queen of the camp turns out to be very unhappy about her life in the end and gets remorseful. I have to point out that I wrote this part before the movie ended and that I was right about the outcome.
What I don’t get about this movie is the singing, some of the songs just seem jammed in there. They’re not bad songs don’t get me wrong even though they’re not exactly brilliant either, they just seem forced into the movie at odd times. Almost like they want a movie that isn’t actually a musical to change into a musical.
I also didn’t think I’d say that High School Musical acting would seem actually decent, compared to Camp Rock it just is though. The acting is just bland from everyone, almost like they’re not into the movie at all and don’t have any chemistry with each other.
As for this being Demi Lovato’s big break through; it simply isn’t. Sure the girl can sing but the movie just isn’t good enough to give her as big a break as for example High School Musical was for Vanessa Hudgens. She doesn’t exactly stand out of the movie as a great actress either, though that could be blamed on the material. She still has Welcome to Mollywood coming in the fall to prove herself as the next big Disney star. So far she hasn’t done it yes, there’s just something missing. I am curious to see what material she comes up with for her own album though.
I have no doubt there will be a sequel and that soundtrack and DVD sales will be high but I can already say that Camp Rock won’t be Disney’s next High School Musical.
